    W elcome toLearnLinc!LearnLinc is an online learningenvironment in which you canregister for online classes, usemultimedia and web-basedcourse materials, and interactwith students and instructors inlive, online classes.

    To start using LearnLinc all youneed is a computer with anetwork or Internet connectionand a web browser.*

    *LearnLinc requires either Microsoft InternetExplorer 4.01 w/sp1 or sp2, or 5.0; or NetscapeNavigator 4.05, 4.08. Refer to the LearnLincStudent or Advanced Guide s for complete systemrequirements.

    About LearnLincLearnLinc has two main components, the VirtualCampus web site, and the Virtual Classroom. Visitthe Virtual Campus web site to create your ownLearnLinc account, register for a course, useresources, and join classes in the Virtual Classroom.Once youve joined a class, use the LearnLincpalette and classroom tools to interact with otherstudents and the instructor in the VirtualClassroom.

    Visiting the Virtual CampusSimply launch your web browser and navigate tothe LearnLinc Virtual Campus web site for yourorganization. Once you have located the site,follow the on screen instructions to create yourown LearnLinc account and go to your personalhome page. Your home page lists the coursesfor which you are registered, and has links tothe Course Catalog and User Directory.

    Preparing to take your first classBefore you take your first class, you mustdownload and install the LearnLinc classroomsoftware. To download the classroom software,click Download on your home page menu bar,and follow the on screen instructions.

    Joining your first classTo join a class:1. Log-in to the Virtual Campus using your

    LearnLinc account information. Your homepage displays once you have logged-in.

    2. Browse the Course Catalog and clickRegister next to the title of the course youwant to take.

    3. Click Continue when the Success pagedisplays.

    4. When you return to the Course Catalog, clickthe course title to open its information page.

    5. Find the class you wish to join and click Joinnext to its title.

    Review the LearnLinc palette diagram (inside) tofamiliarize yourself with the LearnLinc palette ofclassroom tools.

  • On Air/current floor holderThe On Air indicator displays when youhave the floor. Otherwise, displays thename of the current floor holder.

    Hand RaiseRaise your hand at any time to let theinstructor know you wish to take thefloor. If the instructor passes the floor toyou, the class can hear you, and youcontrol any synchronized content orapplications for everyone in the class.

    Class ListThe class list displays the names of allstudents who are currently in class. Thelist counters indicate how many peopleare in the class, and how many studentshave their hands raised.

    Class AgendaUse the class agenda to launch aresource for your own use by double-clicking on its icon. When you have thefloor, double-clicking on agenda itemslaunches them for the entire class. Inaddition, the agenda has shortcuts tosome of the most commonly usedLearnLinc class tools, such asWhiteboard and Q&A.

    Text ChatUse text chat to participate in the classdiscussion. When you send your mes-sage, everyone can see it andrespond to it. You can send a private message to

    the instructor and the instructorsassistants by checking Private.

    The instructor can restrict text chatto him or herself and the currentfloor holder. In restricted mode onlythe instructor and floor holder cansend messages, but everyone cansee the messages in the text chatwindow.

    Return the floorWhen you have the floor, you canreturn it to the instructor at any time byclicking Return floor.

    Audio conferencingIf audio conferencing is in use, you canhear the current floor holder, and youcan speak to the class when your ONAIR indicator displays. You may seeeither of the following, depending onyour hardware:Mute If you see a Mute check box,

    simply speak into your micro-phone when you see the ONAIR indicator.

    Talk If you see a Talk button,click it before speaking,when you see the ON AIRindicator.

    Video conferencingIf your class includes video conferenc-ing, you can be seen and heard whenyour ON AIR indicatordisplays. You can check Mute to stopsending video while you have the floor.

    Network bandwidth monitorThe network bandwidth monitorindicates whether you have enoughbandwidth to participate in the class.Green sufficient bandwidthYellow some bandwidth intensive tools

    may not work wellRed there is not enough bandwidth

    for LearnLinc to functionproperly.

    FeedbackYou can respond to the instructors ver-bal questions by selecting a Feedbackanswer. The instructor can display anyof several answer sets.

    The LearnLinc Student PaletteThe LearnLinc palette displays classroom tools that you can use to interact

    with your instructor and other students during LearnLinc classes.Review the diagram and side notes before you take your first class.
