The Hull Music scene is now gaining both national and international attention whilst thousands have been able to enjoy seeing these bands at the big local festivals such as Humber Street Sesh or the Freedom Festival during the summer. Quiet Riot offers an opportunity for people within Beverley to enjoy these acts and the bands themselves have an opportunity to reach a new audience. The November gig is a taster event with the aim of establishing a monthly event in 2015. The first gig is headlined by the Ming City Rockers. They have made a massive impression within the local scene though Immingham based. Their album has receive four star review in ‘Q‘ magazine whilst a glowing review in ‘Classic Rock’ magazine described them as “One of 2014’s most exciting new bands and debut albums. A magnificent racket” They have a sound and image reminiscent of the New York Dolls, Ramones, Strokes or Manic Street Preachers and Beverley has probably never played host to a band like this before. If their current showcases in New York go well then they may also become out of reach over the coming months. The Ming City Rockers are supported by Hull guitar band Breeze and Beverley act The Velvet Dolls. Breeze are and indie guitar band who have Tim Jibson presents in association with played have played on the big local festivals throughout the summer whilst the Velvet Dolls are an all girl, teenage, blues rock band based in Beverley that play a mixture of their own songs and covers. Quiet Riot will aim to offer opportunities for young talent from Beverley and East Yorkshire to play on these gigs alongside more established acts. Quiet Riot – the Beverley Alternative also incorporates a soundtrack provided by the DJ’s of the Rebelious Jukebox evening from Hull. This was established as a night of post-punk tracks but has developed to incorporate wider range of recording so expect everything from the Smiths to the Manic Street Preachers or the Who to the Ramones throughout the night. The tracks will be selected appropriate to the evenings so some weeks this could be more acoustic or folky. We are also aiming o include tracks from the bands playing or planned for following weeks. There is even the possibility of creating a promotional album showcasing the potential performers coming to Beverley over the next 12 months but key to all of these plans is the success of the launch event in November. Quiet Riot is launched at Hodgsons Club on Flemingate on November 21st. This is next door to Beverley Leisure Centre and doors open at 8pm with tickets £4 in advance or £5 on the door.
