Welcome to our2016-2017
SEMINAR SERIES In beginning our 97th year, the Colorado Prosthodontic Society Board of Directors and I would like to sincerely welcome you to the 2016 – 2017 Seminar Series. Our varied continuing education program of six seminars includes speakers from truly diverse professional, academic and cultural backgrounds to provide you with the latest trends and techniques found in modern dentistry. Our first speaker in September is Dr. Gary Alex who will bring us his daily practice insights on Occlusion and Comprehensive Dentistry. Mid-fall, Dr. Steven LoCascio will provide us with Recipes for the Predictable Treatment of the Edentulous Patient with Implant Assisted and Supported Prostheses. Before we break for the holidays, Dr. David Guichet will examine the many compelling benefits to utilizing emerging digital technologies for designing and creating restorations in modern implant dentistry. In February 2017 our seminar series continues with Dr. John Sorensen who will also address the application of new digital technology and evolving modern materials in esthetic fixed prosthodontics. In March, Dr. Mark Murphy will examine methods for surviving and thriving in the rapidly changing environment of dental care delivery models and practice reimbursement. Too many dental practices are falling victim to the downward spiral of low fee PPO insurance while working much harder to earn less. Dr. Murphy will present strategies for you and your team to provide your patients the care they deserve while maintaining a better balance for you. We then end the seminar series with Dr. Gilles Lavigne. Several of our recent speakers have showcased his research on Dental Sleep Medicine in their presentations and now we will have the opportunity to learn directly from Dr. Lavigne regarding the relationship between sleep apnea, sleep bruxism and orofacial pain. Again, I welcome you to another fulfilling Seminar Series from the not-for-profit Colorado Prosthodontic Society which is committed to science and practice based dental continuing education for all dentists from nationally and internationally recognized presenters without the compromise of corporate support. It is my sincere desire to provide you with the knowledge and insight to better serve your patients and practices through this 2016 - 2017 program.

OCCLUSION AND COMPREHENSIVE DENTISTRY...
THE KEY TO PREDICTABLE SMILE DESIGN
It is one thing to be able to make pretty teeth and an entirely different thing to make pretty teeth that actually last and function in harmony with the rest of the masticatory system. Predictable dentistry requires a practical understanding of fundamental occlusal principles, materials, and more importantly, just how to use them. This program will tackle fundamental occlusal principles and find answers to many of the questions you’ve been asking.
What exactly is the difference between centric relation (CR), centric occlusion (CO), and maximum intercuspation (MIP)? How do you find and record centric relation? When is it acceptable to use MIP as opposed to CR? How important is anterior guidance? Where do you start when doing full mouth rehabilitation? What about other occlusal philosophies? What’s this “envelope of function” stuff all about? This program will provide a rational and methodology for tackling difficult restorative, prosthetic, and cosmetic cases. • Envisioning the big picture (total dentistry for total success) • Cosmetics and occlusion (it looks great, but wil it last?) • The comprehensive exam (the place to start) • Anatomy and diagnosis of the TMJ (occlusion begins here) • Introduction to occlusal science (force be with you?) • Facebow transfers (why and how) • Centric relation bite records (bilateral manipulation, Lucia jigs, and more!) • When to equilibrate (and when not to!) • Esthetics and function (why you must have both to be successful) • “Neuromuscular” occlusion (fact or fiction?) • How to approach a full mouth reconstruction. • When to use CR…and when not to!

RECIPES FOR PREDICTABLE TREATMENT OF THE EDENTULOUS PATIENT WITH IMPLANT ASSISTED
AND SUPPORTED PROSTHESES
When treating the edentulous patient, clinicians are faced with many questions: Where do I get started? What prosthetic design is most appropriate? How many implants should be placed and where should they be positioned? What attachment systems should I use? When and why should implants be splinted with a primary bar? Are fixed restorations better than overdentures? Many factors will influence the answer to these and many more questions. This presentation will take you through the steps necessary in diagnosing, treatment planning and predictably treating the edentulous patient with implants. Mechanical strategies, case design, attachment mechanisms, CAD/CAM bars and immediate loading procedures will be discussed in detail.
OBJECTIVES:
At the conclusion of this presentation, the participant will understand:
1. An algorithm that will help diagnosis and treatment plan the edentulous patient 2. The critical differences between implant assisted and supported designs 3. How case design can significantly influence attachment retention 4. How to predictably manage the edentulous patient with simple mechanics 5. How to incorporate CAD/CAM primary bar technology and immediate loading protocols into practice

DIGITALLY ENHANCED IMPLANT DENTISTRY
Traditional methods of designing and creating restorations have been replaced by digital processes and are forever changed. Multiple technologies have contributed to this trend. In addition to CBCT imaging, intraoral & laboratory scanning, newer open software platforms for digital guide & restoration design allow for local CAD/CAM production. Also, cost effective milling and printing capabilities have accelerated this trend. Simultaneously, restorative materials have been introduced that have improved strength and esthetic qualities. Integration of these capabilities create opportunities for enhanced restorative performance, decreased costs, and improved practice efficiency. This presentation will focus on elements of the digital workflow including, digital treatment planning using merged datasets, linked digital workflows, guided implant surgery. CAD/CAM abutment and restorative design will be presented in the context of new possibilities for efficient and predictable esthetic restorative outcomes. PRESENTATION OBJECTIVES
At the conclusion of this session, attendees should be able to:
1. Become familiar with digital treatment protocols in contrast to traditional workflows 2. Be aware of the uses and current limitations of digital restorative design and CAD/CAM production 3. Understand the trends in esthetic implant restorative material selection and design options4. Become familiar with digital technologies that enhance treatment outcomes and understand the difference of open and closed systems and “best in breed”

DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE:HOW TO NAVIGATE BETWEEN
SLEEP APNEA, SLEEP BRUXISM AND OROFACIAL PAIN DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS AND MANAGEMENT?
For over 30 years dental sleep medicine is in full expansion. It all started with use of better designed oral appliance for sleep apnea and very soon the interaction with other sleep related conditions such as sleep bruxism (SB), orofacial pain and insomnia became a major concern for both general dentists and prosthodontists.
Sleep Apnea is characterized by repetitive cessation of breathing, reduction in oxygen (hypoxia) and risk of hypertension and severe morbidity. SB-tooth grinding is a periodic-rhythmic muscle activity; its etiology includes anxiety-hypervigilance and sleep arousal reactivity (cardio-respiratory) or breathing alteration in sub-group of patients. Understanding the interaction between these sleep disorders and on temporomandibular pain is a challenge for clinicians. Diagnosis is better achieved in collaboration with sleep medicine physician to establish the differential diagnosis of concomitant relevant sleep disorders include insomnia, Sleep Disorder Breathing (SDB: RERA to sleep apnea) and/or movement/neurological disorders (oromandibular myoclonus – epilepsy or REM Behaviour Disorder) and Gastro-oesophageal Reflux (GERD). Management by dentists includes oral appliances (splint or mandibular advancement appliance if SDB) and sleep hygiene advices; by psychologist (cognitive behavioural therapies) and by physicians medication (CPAP for apnea and muscle relaxant, botulinum toxin, clonidine for SB, proton pump inhibitor for GERD).
GL research is funded by Canada Research Chair, CIHR, CFI and FRQS.

The Colorado Prosthodontic Society Board of Directors and I would like to welcome you to the 2010-2011 seminar series. Our continuing education program of six seminars includes speakers of the highest caliber from truly diverse professional, academic, and cultural backgrounds.
Our first speaker on September 20th is Dr. David Alleman. Dr. Alleman will present his “Six Lessons of Biomimetic Dentistry,” a new approach to restoring teeth. His approach is something most haven’t seen before. I am also excited to welcome Dr. Norton from England and his presentation on the “BioManagment Complex (BMC)” and its effect on clinical outcomes. We have heard a lot about the downfalls of mini-implants, but Dr. Shatkin in November will present how he has placed thousands with excellent success and present his approach to this controversial discipline. Dr. Sascha Jovanovic needs no introduction and will speak to us about several Implant related topics. He is a highly sought after speaker and I am proud to have him. We have a special treat with Dr. David Clark and his 3D lecture (yes including the glasses) about the “End of the GV Black Era,” and how composites could perhaps be better placed, and an intensive discussion on the devastating crack propagation in teeth. Our seminar series will be completed by Dr. Chris Brady in April and his presentation on Case Acceptance and the things we dentists due to ruin this important “Golden 10 Minutes.” Several of the above mentioned speakers have rounded and changed the way I practice and I am excited to share their knowledge with you.
The Colorado Prosthodontic Society is the longest continuously organized study club in the nation. We are entering our 91st year and I am proud to serve as your President and program chair for the 2010-2011 season. I hope the topics this year provide you with new and enlightening ideas as our profession and materials continue to change. Continuing education is the vehicle in which we advance our profession and I commend you all for continued involvement.

Dr. David Alleman
1 Protecting The Pulp By Detailed Caries Detection, Removal And Treatment: How to properly use caries detecting dyes to distinguish between infected and affected dentin. How in interpret DIAGONOdent readings to guide you to the strongest bondable end-point. Using the ICDAS II international system to know when to restore and/or rematerialize a lesion. How to lower and/or inactivate MMP activity in order to keep your full bond strength. How to and why you should avoid direct pulp exposures.
2 Biomimetic Analysis Of The Structural Compromise Or Integrity Of The Tooth: The 1-2-3-4 system of predicting when a tooth is at risk of fracture. How to decide when it is best to do: a direct, semi-direct or indirect restoration. How to find and remove cracks into dentin. When to leave cracks in enamel and dentin.
3 Immediate Dentin Sealing And Resin Coating To Mimic The DEJ How to double your bond strength. Which 5 of the 90+ Dentinal Bonding Systems are the best. How to create “Super Dentin” Bonds that are acid and base resistant. How to Mimic the DEJ. How to create a “fail-safe” restoration.
4 C-Factor Stress Reduction In Mimicking The Dentin Which low shrinkage composites are the best. Which layering technique is best. Which slow-start light cure protocol is best. How to “Decouple” dentin from enamel bonds. Why Ribbond decreases stress and secures the dentin bond.
5 Bonding To And Replacing Enamel When to bevel enamel. When not to bevel enamel. When to onlay a cusp. When not to onlay a cusp.
6 Mimicking The Occlusal Envelope Of Function Gary Unterbrink’s “3-paper” adjustment technique John Kois’ diagnosis of para-functional vs. dysfunctional occlusions Mike Alpern’s biomimetic articulator “The POLY” to treat TMD
~ Biographical sketch ~
The dictionary defines ‘rich’ as “Having or producing a particular thing in large amounts.” That is Dr. Chris Brady’s passion.
As the nationally recognized ‘Rich Dentist Coach & Case Acceptance Expert’, Chris loves helping dentists have or produce large amounts of whatever it is they want—in dentistry and in life. Dr. Chris has developed one of the most effective case acceptance systems that will have patients asking for treatment. No pressure. Not pushy. Just happier patients accepting bigger cases, resulting in fewer days at the office and a happier, better-compensated team.
Dr. Chris teaches more Case Acceptance seminars than any other dentist on the planet. This year, in 2010, he will provide over 75 days of personal seminar coaching for hundreds of his Brady Group members and prospective dental clients across the country. Dr. Brady’s teaching approach is motivating and entertaining. You’ll find yourself laughing and even feeling a bit embarrassed at some of the crazy things we naively do and say to patients.
Dr. Chris is also an author, practice transitions expert, and motivational speaker. He has spoken to groups (AADPA featured speaker. Keynote speaker at the AACD.) all across the United States. His numerous articles can be found in various publications such as Dental Economics, Mentor and Contemporary Dental Aesthetics. He was also an Editorial Board member at Dentist’s Money Digest. Most of all, Dr. Brady is a genuine, generous person eager to share his message with those of his profession with the desire of creating happiness.
Dr. Chris Brady is a Colorado native who currently resides in Colorado Springs. Chris is a graduate from Brigham Young University with a BS degree in Zoology. He then received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1984 from Baylor College of Dentistry in Dallas, Texas. He opened his practice that same year in Colorado Springs and developed a practice with emphasis on major restorative and cosmetic dentistry.
Dr. Chris is the president and founder of Brady Group LLC. His coaching program has quickly gained popularity with progressive dentists. He and his team teach them how to realize the practice they always envisioned. High profit. Low stress. More vacation time. Highly trained team. Excellent communication and case presentation skills. Low overhead. Dentists and their teams experience unique opportunities for growth that eliminate the “burned out” feeling so common in dentistry today. Call the Brady Group to get you on the road to becoming a rich and happy dentist.
