    QUICK REFERENCE GUIDE

    MULTIFUNCTION LOSS TESTER

    FOT-930

    4 Select.

    3Select.

    2 Press.

Note: The FOT-930 has been designed not to require offset nulling under normal operation. However, you should perform it whenever environmental conditions change significantly.

    5Configure FASTEST parameters.

You can configure the FASTEST on the master unit only. The remote unit will automatically adapt to these parameters (FASTEST parameters on remote unit are ignored).

    Setting Up the FASTEST

    1Press to turnthe unit on.

Performing the FASTESTIdeal to perform 2- or 3- wavelength bidirectionnal loss and ORL tests for singlemode fibers, or 2- wavelength loss tests for multimode fibers, in 10 seconds (including fiber length measurement). FASTEST is useful in high-fiber count installations.

Note: Your FOT-930 has been designed not to require a new setup each time you perform a FASTEST. It keeps your parameters in memory even when you turn off the unit.

    18Press.

19 Set the next cable/fiber name as needed.

Note: Although FASTEST requires two units, you initiate it only from the master unit. Both units use FASTEST settings from the master unit.

20 Press to start test. The units establish communication and automated tests begin. Measurements appear on both units as they are taken.

21 If desired, save the displayed values:If Auto save was activated for one or both units, results are already saved.

Repeat step 19 to change the displayed cable and fiber name as needed.

Press to save the values. The fiber name increments automatically, ready to save the next value.

17 Clean your fibers properly and connect as shown.

  • Performing Side-by-Side Reference

    12On the masterunit, press. 13Select.

14 Connect through FASTEST ports as shown:

15Press.Note: After a few seconds, the unit displays new reference values for each wavelength on both units.

16 Disconnect the two patchcords from the bulkhead only and connect them to the fiber under test (using the bulkhead adapter or the system patch panels).

    Setting the ORL Zero Value

6 On the master unit, press.7Select.

    8 Press.

    9 Connect as shown.

    Termination

    FASTEST port

Terminate the fiber as close as possible before the component under test. Wrap it at least 10 turns around a mandrel or small diameter tool, adding turns until the reading stabilizes.

    10

11Press to save, then remove the termination.

Note: Your FOT-930 has been designed not to set the ORL Zero each time you perform a FASTEST. It keeps your value in memory until you turn off the unit.

Note: Your FOT-930 has been designed not to perform a new side-by-side reference each time you perform a FASTEST. It keeps the value in memory even when you turn off the unit.

Note: If you are testing ORL, perform an ORL zero measurement.
