Last week I had the pleasure to attend the 2nd Annual Student Art Show at Studio 14 Gallery. I continue to be amazed by the outstanding talent of our students, many of whom received numerous awards for their artwork. It was a truly lovely celebration of our aspiring artists. Later in the week, I enjoyed the talents of our vocally gifted high school students who performed at the annual Holiday Choir Concert. Their voices and music selections definitely put you in a holiday mood. Also last week, the Tippecanoe High School chapter of the National Honor Society inducted its new members. The goal of NHS is to create enthusiasm for scholarship, stimulate a desire to render service, promote leadership, and further develop character in students. It is always my pleasure to congratulate students and their families. The achievements of our students is a direct reflection of their commitment, our dedicated teachers, and devoted parents. Through the years, teachers and families have educated, nurtured, supported, and inspired students. Thank you for encouraging them to dream and helping them to realize their goals.

Congratulations to all of the Tippecanoe High School winners of the 2nd annual Holiday Student Art Show held at Studio 14 Gallery. Awards were presented during the Artists’ Reception. The students’ works are breathtaking and a magnificent representation of talent. The art is on display at the gallery through January 7th. Two of the winners are pictured above with their drawings. All of the winners are listed on page 2 of Quick News.

Congratulations to the newest members of the National Honor Society. The N-H-S is a distinctly recognized group built on high standards of achievement in the areas of academics, community service, character and leadership. Fifty-four Tippecanoe High School juniors and seniors were inducted last week during a ceremony.

CONGRATULATIONS Two LT Ball Intermediate students are being recognized and awarded for their artistic talents. Congratulations to 4th grader Maya Beam(on the left) and fifth grader Sophia Perevozchikov(on the right) for having art pieces chosen to compete at the state level in Columbus. Their artwork will be juried and showcased in Columbus in March with many other students from across the state.

Congratulations to the latest LT Ball D.A.R.E. Graduates. Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a highly acclaimed international education program that seeks to prevent use of controlled drugs, membership in gangs, and violent behavior. The program for fifth graders includes an essay contest that asks students to write about how they plan to live a drug free life. This year’s winners are: Addison Buxton, Ellie McCormick, Molly Dunn, and Roman List.

New Discoveries The impact of stress, nails for breakfast, power of sports drinks, best floors for basketball. Those are only a few of the topics LT Ball Intermediate’s 5th graders presented at the Science Gallery. Students selected a scientific question, researched it, formulated a hypothesis and conducted an experiment. Some of the students will be asked to present their projects at the local science fair.

The Tippecanoe Middle School’s Design Thinking Class is working to design recess space for Nevin Coppock students. The 7th and 8th graders recently visited Mrs. Nancy Carus’ and Mrs. Amy Blake’s classes to interview the first graders about what they like and what they normally do during indoor and outdoor recess. The Design Thinking students are prototyping a new space for the 1st grade students that they will be sharing in the near future.

Fourteen eighth and ninth grade girls attended the We Are It! conference at Edison Community College. The objective is to promote girls in STEM fields. Participants went to breakout sessions such as Barbie bungee jumping, a human simulator, programming, robotics, and CSI. During lunch, the girls talked with local female professionals who work in the IT and engineering fields. Thank you STEAM Boosters for funding this opportunity.

Penny Wars

Veterans

LT Ball Intermediate students are learning the value of being philanthropic one cent at a time. Some fourth grade students participated in Penny Wars while learning about the shortage of copper during WWII. WWII pennies were made out of steel at that time so the copper could be used for ammunition and military equipment. Since copper was at such a high demand, the US Treasury started to make steel pennies in 1943. Students in the classes of Michelle Rhodes, Megan Schaurer and Heather Ker donated close to $500 in pennies and loose change to Honor Flight Dayton. Mrs. Ker’s students received a thank you letter from Honor Flight Dayton for the class donation. Jeannie Moore’s students proudly donated a $115.11 check to Support Homeless Veterans. Pennies and loose change add up.

The trailer arrived—the foundation for a new home! The Homebuilding class at Tippecanoe High School is taking on an ambitious project. Students are building a “Tiny House”. Tiny Houses have become increasingly popular in the past couple of years for people seeking more affordable housing, a simpler lifestyle, and/or the ability to be more mobile. Tiny houses often are no more than a few hundred square feet and built on a trailer so that they can be towed. Many of the materials being used to build the house are donated from local businesses and community members.

Reading Buddies Some Tippecanoe Middle School and Nevin Coppock students are reading buddies! Once a month, the TMS students walk to Nevin Coppock to read to the kindergarten and first grade children. The little ones adore the older buddies and look forward to having them at school.

Nevin Coppock kindergarten students walked to the post office to mail their special letters to Santa Claus. Postmaster Chris Lucas assured the children their letters would travel express mail to the North Pole. And, she told them because her last name actually spell “Claus” when unscrambled she is related and has a special connection.

The students at Tippecanoe High School gave amazing performances at the

annual Holiday Choir Concert. Members of the symphonic choir, concert

choir and A cappella group were spectacular to listen to and created a

beautiful night of seasonal music for audience members. Thank you to music

teacher Amanda Hughes for nurturing students’ talent and love of music!

Tickets will be going on sale soon. Every boys basketball player will have tickets to sell or you can contact Heather Bledsoe

it raised $1,568 for the program and wants to beat that mark this year! All proceeds benefit the student athletes.

Red Devil Gift Ideas

Are you looking for that perfect Red Devil gift? Well, there are some great ideas to fulfill the wish-list or the “what do I get for…..” list?

Spiritwear - The Athletic Boosters have a large variety of spiritwear and accessories for sale. The items will be available for purchase between 6:00—8:00 p.m. on Tuesday December 20th. The boosters will be located in the high school athletic hallway. You do not need to purchase a ticket to

the basketball game in order to shop.

Football Jerseys – Old football jerseys are available for purchase at the spirit wear table on December 20th. These jerseys range between 8 to 25 years old and cost $20. If you need more information, email Kari @ kprall@woh.rr.com.

Red Devil Pennants – The high school girls basketball teams are selling pennants for their fund-raiser. What a great gift idea for all ages! The felt pennants are 9” x 24” and cost $10 each. If you would like to purchase one or many, please email Kari @ kprall@woh.rr.com.
