Applique and Stitch a Glittery Christmas Tree Herma de Ruiter, The Netherlands It’s never too early to start preparing for Christmas. Join Herma for an hour of Christmas stitching! We will applique a Christmas tree onto a background and then decorate it using beautiful glittery threads. Use the threads to decorate the background as well. Copy her samples or use your imagination to turn your work into a one-of-a-kind Christmas decoration. Your kit includes pre-cut wool fabric, beautiful embroidery threads, needles, a background and of course a miniature canvas and easel to display your work. Beautiful Clamshells: Piecing by Hand Molly Brown This workshop will provide you with the materials to make a coaster using the very pretty Clamshell shape. During the session you will be shown how to cut and join Clamshell patchwork pieces by hand, using Molly’s method of piecing. You will be shown 3 different patterns how to piece this shape together. As a hand sewn

Bird or Cupcake Calico Tote Bag Jo Leatherland Using free motion, appliqué techniques and decorative threads you’ll embellish a calico tote bag with a beautiful bird or delicious cupcake design - great for storing your fabric stash! A really easy fun class for all levels. Saturday

Blackwork & Applique Blackbird Tamara Schultz, Sweden In this Early Morning workshop students will learn a variety of techniques to make a cute little blackbird. They start by painting the outline, including beak and feet, with a stencil they make and Paintstiks. Paintsticks are an easy to use oil paint crayon that are permanent on fabric. Students also get cross stitch fabric and instructions in a basic blackwork embroidery stitch(a simple form of embroidery to form patterns) for the wing, as well as cotton cloth and directions on how to applique(a method of sewing shapes onto base fabrics) the body. Suitable for all abilities. As part of the Early Morning pre-show workshops, your ticket includes a light breakfast of pastry or muffin and tea or coffee. Block Printed Purse Clare Horner, Colour Craft In this class we will create a beautiful block printed piece of fabric using amazing soft fabric paints, you will have the option to follow the provided pattern and create a small purse or create something at home. You will learn easy block printing and how to use super soft fabric paints to their greatest potential. This beginner pattern will need to be sewn at home. Blue Tit Applique Jo Avery Spend a relaxing session with Jo hand stitching this adorable blue tit. Learn turned-edge applique techniques plus a little embroidery. Enjoy some slow stitching as you watch your bird come to life. Once finished at home this can be used as the centre piece to a quilt block or framed as a picture. Butterfly Needle Case Gai Taylor, Australia This new Butterfly Needlecase combines embroidery stitches that make up the same as an embroidery sampler. Gai will explain why she uses Embroidery needles, Perle 8 threads and teach you all the embroidery stitches. The Butterfly is 3D so it appears to be flying off the cover and there is a little garden of flowers on the back to also discover. The butterfly and flowers are all pre cut to saving on time and wool felt. Suitable for all abilities. Thursday & Sunday

Buttons and Quilt Tags Helen Moyes Make your own unique adornments. Stamp, draw, colour and punch on shrink plastic. Then watch your creation shrink and become a durable, button or tag to sew onto your projects. Suitable for all abilities. Friday & Sunday

Canadian Smocking Sampler Molly Brown In this workshop Molly will show you how to work North American Smocking. You will make a sample of this lovely textured technique. Having mastered the technique, when you get home you can let your creative flair go and use this to make vintage style 50’s cushion covers in fabulous modern fabrics, giving a new twist on an old technique. Molly will provide a detailed handout so you can continue with your own projects at home. Suitable for beginners new to the subject including older children when accompanied by an adult. Christmas Ring Garland Mick Stead The garland is made using Suffolk Puffs which the students will make from the materials provided. This project will be hand stitching only and is simple to make therefore suitable for beginners. Once the Suffolk Puffs are made they will be attached along with ribbons to the metal ring provided. Students will be able to finish the project later with all the materials provided. Suitable for all abilities, including older children when accompanied by an adult. Thursday & Saturday

Using felt in a range of springtime colours and white thread you will build up layers of coloured cloth using decorative stitches. Eco-Dyed Printed Notebook Angela Daymond In this workshop you will learn about how addictive and absorbing using a variety of leaves and petals is to colour white paper. You will begin by stitching pages of cotton rag paper, made from recycled textiles together to form your own A6 sized notebook. Under guidance from Angela you will layer up your pages with leaves and petals before bundling them all together with thread. You will wrap this round some wooden dowel in the workshop. Full instructions will be given for you to stream or boil your notebook at home. NO dyeing takes place during the workshop. You will be taught how to remove the leaves and to dry your notebook. You will end up with pages full of unique colour and texture. Angela will teach you how to further embellish your pages with stitch and printing. Introduction to Stuffed and Corded Quilting Ruth Singer Stuffed & corded quilting or trapunto is a fast, fun technique for creating raised texture on fabric. Unlike traditional quilting, in trapunto the stuffing is added between two stitched layers of fabric just in the areas required. Trapunto can be worked by hand or machine, but in this class we will use simple hand-stitching techniques to create a small sampler using cording and stuffing. Kantha Pansy Angela Daymond Kantha is a 500 year old stitch technique originating in India. It uses just one stitch, the running stitch to create patterns and representational images. In this workshop you will use running stitch to create a beautiful representational pansy flower. You will learn how to layer soft tulle under your stitches to create a delicate background colour for added depth. We will focus on stitching one petal in the workshop, you take away full instructions for how to complete the rest at home. This workshop is suitable for people of all stitching ability. Native American Mini Button Blanket Tamara Schultz, Sweden One of the textile traditions of the Native Americans who live in the Pacific Northwest is to make decorative blankets/cloaks made of wool felt appliqued with traditional designs and then decorated with mother-of-pearl buttons. In this workshop we will cut out our design (based on a traditional Native American legend) from one colour of felt and hand sew to another colour and then embellish with a mixture of new and vintage buttons. Natural Dyeing in a Jar Angela Daymond In this workshop you will learn all about the fascinating process of natural dyeing. Angela will teach you about what a mordant is, when and how to mordant. You will be given a fat quarter of white fabric which Angela has pre-mordanted. You will put this into a jar with some natural dye plants such as onion skins, berries and madder root. Angela will give full instructions on how you will heat up your jar once home and wash and care for your fabric. Everyone will get stunning and totally unique results. The hardest thing will be in deciding what you are going to do with your fabric. Angela will teach you how to size up your natural dyeing for larger pieces of fabric. Shibori and Indigo Silk Scarf Cecile Whatman, Australia Tie and pleat a scarf; learn about Shibori and Indigo dye. When the scarf is tied, we will add it to the Indigo dye vat and dye it to the traditional dark indigo blue. The scarf will need to be washed out at home. Suitable for all abilities, including children when accompanied by an adult. Saturday

Shibori: Four Techniques in an Hour Angela Daymond Shibori has its origins in Japan and involves folding, pleating and scrunching fabric using thread and clips to create beautiful patterns after dyeing. In this Early Morning workshop you will learn three different stitch resist techniques and a clamp technique using a fat quarter of cotton fabric. The workshop focuses on these four very different techniques and you will take your fabrics away with you to dye at home. You will get a demonstration of how to put your fabrics into a jar or plastic bag before dyeing them a traditional navy blue. NO dyeing of fabrics will take place during the workshop. Angela will provide the navy procion dye, soda ash, salt and give you written instructions so that you can easily complete this workshop at home. Take Two Stitches InStitches Spend an hour with InStitches exploring the creative potential of two basic hand stitches, the dash and the dot. Change the effect by working with threads in different weights and colours and arranging them in unexpected ways. Each kit will include everything you need for the class: fabric, wadding, a needle and a selection of InStitches’ hand dyed threads plus an illustrated work sheet so that you can continue stitching after the class. Textile Collage Landscapes Katharine Wright A therapeutic and stash-busting workshop! Learn to create a ‘painting’ with fabric scraps, play with colour and texture and add free-hand embroidery stitches to complete your textile art work. Suitable for all abilities, including older children when accompanied by an adult. Thursday & Saturday

Traditional Hand Piecing: Add Colour Values Dawn Cameron-DickLearn the modern way to do traditional, foundation hand piecing (sometimes called EPP...English Paper Piecing) while beginning to make an exciting Tumbling Block variation. The success of this, and many other similar blocks, rely upon a good understanding of using colour value effectively when choosing your fabrics. Dawn will provide many examples of how to easily use colour value to make your quilts really shine! Vintage Botanical Stitched Fabric Journal Ami James Join Ami and learn how to successfully transfer designs in an easy way whilst transferring a flower onto a background made up from vintage fabrics, lace and trimmings. Then hand stitch the design, using the simple but effective Kantha Stitch. You will learn the techniques to start the project on the day and have the remaining fabrics for you to finish at home. Winter Wonderland Mick Stead This is a Winter Landscape of your imagination. To build up your picture you will be using a layering technique. They are easy to make as there are no exact measurements but will be using pattern pieces to cut out the fabric. Extra items for the foreground will be added. Ideal for all levels of quilter or sewer within the hour it will be pinned together ready for stitching. Suitable for all abilities, including older children when accompanied by an adult. Wire and Wool Wire Haired Terrier Fi Oberon This charming little sculpture can be adapted to create a portrait of your own much loved dog. Inspired by Olga (Fi’s little old terrier) the model is surprisingly easy to make by wrapping textiles around a wire frame. Fi will guide you to make the wire frame from the template supplied and then wrap to form with cotton and speciality yarns to the required shape. Surface pattern is added with a sharpie pan. the shape and colour. Suitable for all abilities. Sunday

Wool Felt Sewing Pouch Gai Taylor, Australia Wool felt is a wonderful medium to make any pouch or purse come to life. Gai’s new sewing pouch has a cat on the front and a dragonfly on the back or it could be reversed. Lots of stitches are used in this project and these will be taught in class as well as learning about needles and threads.
