Research and Web Technologies We researched and planned for our product, two key elements in aiding

our understanding were IMDB and YouTube. IMDB was helpful when looking up films from the genre of social realism, through having suggested films from the genre social realism it helped us gain a broad knowledge of our chosen genre. IMDB included information such as actors, year of release and gross profit. YouTube also played a huge role when researching for our media product through the wide range of trailers on YouTube we gained an in depth knowledge. Additionally YouTube allowed us to present our feedback through different forms. We watched trailers such as inside Llewyn Davis, which aided our understanding on typography and institutions we then have gone on to use similar typography and the same institutions in the construction of our media product. Also YouTube allowed us to look up specialist skills for example we were able to watch a tutorial on the reverse effect this permitted us to have a convincing car crash scene. Additionally YouTube enabled us to reach a wider audience through the platform and the exposure that YouTube provides for amateur filmmakers. This therefore meant that we could gather diverse audience feedback.

Research and Web Technologies• Wordpress allowed us to document each stage of our production in

different forms. Wordpress gave us the opportunity to see how our ideas have developed and to compile complex ideas in order to create our media product it also means that we can have all three of our media products together this is easily accessible for our audience.

• Originally we organised a viewing for 25 peers to partake in a paper survey for our audience feedback however this was proved challenging when starting to compile the data. We came to the conclusion it would highly beneficial to create an online survey which meant a wide range of people could access, survey monkey was highly advantageous because the data is collected and analysed for you making it an efficient method of collecting audience feedback. Alongside survey monkey we created a facebook page in order to advertise our media product to our friends and other facebook users due to the exposure which facebook provides and it contributed to our cohesive marketing campaign.

Software Final cut express allowed us to create a complex and

clear narrative, through the magnitude of tools which the software provided. The sequence timeline allowed us to have precision, which no other software had provided we used this when editing the car crash scene in order to create a convincing car crash. Additionally we could alter the soundtrack using ducking this enabled us to create tension at the climax of the narrative. We used it when our protagonist has his downturn therefore this amplified the atmosphere. In addition, we could change the opacity of the image and transition from one scene to another. We used a transition after the car crash this created a sense of ambiguity to the destination of our narrative.

Software We used Photoshop elements to create our

magazine and poster. It permitted us to create pleasing aesthetics through the simplicity of our photos it gave us the scope to add extra effects. Photoshop allowed us to alter the exposure on the images, which therefore denoted our genre. Additionally Photoshop allowed us to create a professional look, which gave credibility to our media product. Additionally we used a bamboo tablet whilst creating our poster because we wanted to add an edgy look adhering to social realism genre we used shading to create an artistic edge. It enabled us to sketch with great precision we feel that this contributed to the final look of our poster and therefore our three products as a whole.

Hardware We used a Canon EOS100D DVSLR camera to

film and take still images for our trailer magazine and poster. We were able to have access to two of these cameras therefore this created fluidity and continuity due to the fact we could film from a variety of angles at the same time, this also made the filming process quicker. Using an SLR camera meant we could achieve an extremely high quality and has features such as manual focus, which drew attention to certain motifs the SLR meant that this was all completed at a low expense. Additionally through the manual focus it meant that we could experiment with depth of field and use this to bring motifs to the forefront of the shot.
