evaluation stages?

Technology and software used• For the making of my music video various different technological devices were used. These mainly

included, the camera, the software and the camera aids such as the stand and such. In terms of camera, I was able to obtain a canon 550D. This camera was very beneficial in the production of the video as well as the magazine and digipak, it allowed me to capture very defined footage as well as photos too. The device itself was/is a technically advanced camera, not only did it allow for clarity but yet had many setting which controlled lighting (better known as aperture), it allowed me to recording for an exceedingly long period of time and also let me edit the footage by cropping certain sections. By having such a manipulative camera, it meant that I was able to edit the footage easier and more decisively when uploading it onto adobe premiere. The software I used to edit the footage was ‘adobe premiere’, this software is most commonly used when editing film and other footage. The software allowed for to use different techniques and filters which meant I could edit my work easily and with real precision. Some of the editing techniques involved cropping, overlaying, jump cutting and flashing cutting amongst others. The software also displays the option for text overlaying whereby you can place text over image, either moving or static. However, I did face many difficulties with this software, for example the processing speed was very slow meaning I was unable to work at a reasonable speed.

Footage and Effects

• The footage I filmed for my video seemingly tried to emulate the feeling presented by the super 8 footage I obtained and used, but yet was technologically different. The super 8 footage I used, was filmed from a VCR video player. I placed the camera in front of the centre of the television around three to four foot away, on a tripod. There were some difficulties doing this though, as for every time I would try to capture new footage from the VCR the camera would most often move, therefore I would have to place the camera in the exact location I had previously in order for the footage (when put together on premiere) not to look out of place. Most of footage whether that be taken from VCR or real life motion, was through the camera being placed on a tripod, rather than holding/moving with the camera. In terms of effects, I frequently used the black and white filter, in order to create an older look to my piece, in hand with the actual older footage. I used many transition effects such as blur, for both exiting and beginning new shots, as well as solarize. These effects gave my work added character, but yet whilst doing this I was experimenting as being fairly new to the software I was unsure and unaware of the certain effects that I could potentially, or potentially not, use.

Internet

• The internet contributed as a major factor in relation to the research, construction and planning of my video. I looked at many different videos from different genres. Videos I watched included; Black skinhead- Kanye West, Radar Detector- Darwin Deez and Supersoaker- Kings of Leon. These videos had various aspect which I believed to useful for my ideas process, most proabaly as they contrasted each other. Yet the video I found to use ideas from was that of the Darwin Deez video. I found that the stop-start motion effect was innovative and unique, subsequently leading to me wanting to use this idea. Youtube was a very beneficial media platform in terms of research, this is as I was able to look at exsiting videos as well as other previous A2 media students videos. This was valuable as I was able to gauge the expectations for my final piece, and I was able to see lower graded work alongside higher graded work and judge what I needed to include and improve upon.
