FIRST THINGS FIRST. WHAT IS A MEDIA INSTITUTION?Institutions are stable companies (they

have enough budget to take care of themselves). They control the behaviour of a set of individuals within a given community such as small businesses. Institutions are identified with a social purpose, transcending individuals and intentions by mediating the rules that govern most of the small companies decisions .

WE COULD DISTRIBUTE OUR FILM IS BY A DISTRIBUTING COMPANY.

I think that Peccadillo Pictures Ltd. will distribute our product because they cheap services to Independent film companies such as our company (GHEM Productions). The reason why they offer cheap service to independent film company because they are themselves an independent company in their field, which means they are not a part of a conglomerate family of businesses or owned by a conglomerate such as Canute. This makes so we don’t have to contact Canute directly and set up a subscription (which causes us to pay a certain amount of money). We can pay direct to the company or we can make a deal where Peccadillo Pictures get a percentage of profits.

MORE ABOUT PECCADILLO PICTURES LTD.

Peccadillo Pictures is a UK-based film distributor of art house, gay and lesbian, independent and world cinema.

They have provided distribution for many films such as Weekend, Tomboy, XXY, Eyes Wide Open, Four Minutes, The Blossoming of Maximo Oliveros, Transylvania, Cockles and Muscles and Summer Storm.

They have an account system but this doesn’t require a subscription like Canute does, but we would have to sign up to there website in order for our film to be distributed. The only thing we would have to do is go and get interviewed by a member of staff and try and convince them to distribute it.

WHY WE CHOOSE THIS COMPANY AND NOT A DIFFERENT ONE?The reason why we choose this company because of a few

reasons we had only one other company to consider which was Launching Films Inc. we didn’t choose this company because of few reasons such as:

1. Launching Films Inc. is a conglomerate, it has several partnerships with big independent film makers by making deals with them where they would be prioritised first before any new film makers, which would reduce our chances of our film being distributed.

2. Peccadillo Pictures Ltd, does most of their interviews over the phone or through a Skype call if we don’t live local to them or if traveling is an issue (which for our case it is) so therefore we can call them and tell them about our film.

WE COULD DISTRIBUTE OUR FILM IS THROUGH A FILM FESTIVAL.

THE BRITISH INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL.

The British Independent Film festival, is an applicant festival (you have to apply for your film/trailer to be shown), it is a free for independent film companies trying to show their films. The reason, however, why you have to apply for the product to be shown in the festival is because there is limited space, because it has been very popular for the last 10 years, so therefore I believe that we would have a hard time to get our film into this festival because we would be competing with other independent companies, such as Jamie Crawford Productions, that have had years of experience.

THE BRITISH FILM INSTITUTE FESTIVAL

The BFI, is charity organisation that give small independent film companies including A-level media companies funding for their film ideas. They need to interview the company and receive an application from the company in order for them to be featured in the festival. The festival is hosted over a weekend, the Saturday shows trailers of independent films which is where our film would be shown and then awards would be given out to actors, companies and the films themselves for ‘Best Actor’, ‘Best Picture’ etc. This would be again hard for us because the BFI festival isn’t local (it’s in London) so we wouldn’t be able to physically be there.

Page 10: Question 3 by George Plumbe

THRILLERFESTThrillerfest, is the biggest film festival in

the world for the genre thriller (who knew?). This is a very good one to apply for because the festival is held in a massive hall which is also used for Comic Con and have different sections for different things for example thy have the auditorium for the award ceremony, a separate cinema to buy tickets for and watch the films that are showcased with the trailers (which is where our film would be) and a couple of desks dotted around the place for the production teams. The only problem that I spotted is the travel, it’s in America and we don’t have any money to buy four plane tickets out to America, also none of us are able to drive yet, so we wouldn’t be able to get there, if money and travel wasn’t an issue we would be on the first flight to America.

WE COULD DISTRIBUTE OUR FILM IS BY UPLOADING IT TO SOCIAL MEDIA.

Page 12: Question 3 by George Plumbe

BLOGGER

Blogger is what we are using for our course and is classed as a social media. Blogger is a journal based social media that allows a user to set up a page about literally anything from gaming to cooking to education. However the problem is that you can’t post videos on there so we have to link it to another site such as YouTube in order for our audience to view our film.

Page 13: Question 3 by George Plumbe

FACEBOOK

Facebook, is another social media site that allows the user to share any moments, events and most importantly for us, videos. All we have to do is upload our film from our computer to a Facebook page preferably a GHEM Productions Facebook Page. However the problem that we will face is that we won’t be available to the general public because to get notifications from a Facebook page you need to like it, so therefore we wouldn't want get recognised by the public at all.

Page 14: Question 3 by George Plumbe

YOUTUBENow YouTube, is perfect for us

to get our film to the general public, because it doesn’t require our audience to view anything before hand such as view a page like Facebook. YouTube is also free to the public, like any other media sites, but is the most popular site which I why I think our film would benefit a lot from it. The only problem we would face and have been facing is figuring out which file type to use to upload our film.

Page 15: Question 3 by George Plumbe

CONCLUSIONWe don’t have a budget, so therefore any distributing company

is out the question because they would almost certainly ask for money , taking our film to a festival would be a lot of hard work because we have to apply for a place in the festival, pay a fee to get into the festival then set up equipment so that we could show our film on a big screen. So we will use YouTube as our source to distribute our film and show it to the public.

This is George Plumbe of the AS Media company GHEM Productions, singing off.

Thank you for viewing and goodbye.
