How does your media product represent particular social

groups? My target audience is the indie/indie pop genre. My

magazine is aimed at males and females aged 16-20. It is for

people who have a unique style, trend setters and people who have particular taste for indie music. I have based my magazine around

NME and Billboard as NME is indie/rock and Billboard is pop and I am creating a mix between both.

I have tried to appeal to both males and females when creating my magazine. On

my front cover I have used Burgundy, Blue, White and Black, these colours are

quite neutral and can relate to both genders. I have also used indie icons in my cover lines for my articles inside the magazine, such as Ben Howard and The Vaccines and these would appeal to the

female audience but I feel I have also appealed to the males by using a good

looking girl on the front cover that many of them may be attracted to.

I have used pictures of a live gig featuring my article artist.

This appeals to my target audience as being young

going to gigs is something fun and current that many of

them do and this gives my magazine a wider range.

SCREENGRABThe open mouth facial expression connotes an alluring look that could attract the male audience.

Natural, curly hair shows the artists have a laid back, and relaxed approach to their appearance, which fits with the indie genre.

Both artists are wearing casual clothing, ie- t-shirt and their body language is positioned straight toward the camera.

These two pictures are another example where I have chosen a picture from a real media product which I think bears similarity to my design. My model has blonde, naturally curly hair in this image and so does the real artist, both camera shots are close-up of the models faces. The facial expression in both pictures are direct eye contact to the audience, which draws them in and a serious/open mouth pose. Which connotes a sensual/alluring appeal to the artist broadening the gender attraction to the product. Further, they are both wearing necklaces which are accessories that show statement to an outfit, which again emphasises my indie social group.
