How does your media product represent particular social

groups?

Page 2: Question 2

GenderIn magazines such as ‘Vibe’ which is the same type of magazine as mine, usually represent females as a type of sex symbol, very revealing and seductive. However in my magazine I have chosen to present females in a good way, by using glamorous women. Furthermore, males are represent as aggressive, dominant and powerful in magazines e.g. ‘Vibe’ however I have chosen to have successful men on my magazine

ClassI have chosen that the themes in my magazine are success, wealth and glamour. Therefore I requested my classmate model to wear a sparkly dress and her biggest bits of jewelry in order to look classy, I think I reached my aim. Hip Hop is a very working class genre but I wanted to present my magazine in a working class and positive manner. My male character does not wear lots of bling.

Age• In my magazine I represented young people as

fashionable, happy and sophisticated. • This is a very thoughtful and passive pose (left),

the mode of address is indirect as he is not looking at the camera and this is not stereotypical of a young black men in a hip-hop magazine (right) , angry and threatening.

Ethnicity• In my magazine I chose to

represent mixed race women as classy and powerful. In the picture I have chosen to use, Lorna’s posture is straight and up-right; this shows that she is proud and sophisticated. On my front cover I portrayed African-Caribbean men to be determined and hard working, I done this by putting him in a studio, in a hooded jumper like it is a daily thing and his expression looks like he’s passionate about rapping.
