EVENTS AT THE GEORGI: the Georgi on the BattenkillCommunity Park and Museum will be hosting an Art Openingin the Community Room April 28 at 7 PM ,. Artist and Illus-trator, H. Wayne Trimm, will be presenting “Nature’s Won-ders”, exhibiting his paintings and illustrations. Wayne wasthe feature artist and art director for the NYS ConservationistMagazine for 30 years and lived in Chatham in the1950s. Atage 93,he is the last living founding member of the Alan DevoeBird Club.The subjects of his paintings are based in nature: wildlife andflowers. Wayne and his wife, Melodee, are both wildlife bi-ologists and rehabilitators. In later years, he hosted “OutdoorWorld of Learning” (O.W.L.) programs, and would bring res-cued owls to schools and other places to teach people aboutnature and birds. Wayne would demonstrate his always fit con-dition by holding his big Great Horned Owl on his left armand sketch the bird’s portrait in pastel, all the while talkingwith the audience about “Bramble’s” features. Wayne keeps a small sketchpad with recent drawings. He saidhe has always done this and is still painting. His father was aportrait painter and there were other artists in his family. Overthe years he developed his skills as he went on to become ascientist. At the New York state Department of EnvironmentalConservation, he got to combine all of these interests and skills.Mr. Trimm will be present at the opening to answer questionsand be available for discussion. She will demonstrate some of the basicsteps in line dancing, teaching each step separately and slowly.Line Dancing has been shown to benefit both the mind and thebody, as well as providing an enjoyable social interaction withother line dancers. Before the workshop is over, everyone will beable to dance a complete dance set to music. Ginny has been teaching some form of dancing for sixty-six years.While completing her senior year at Boston Girls High she waschosen as a student instructor at the Boston Arthur Murray Stu-dios. In2000, the Eichels moved to Saratoga Springs, where Stu hasachieved renown for painting local landmarks and businessesthroughout the region.A former boxer and an avid marathon runner, Eichel is now anoctogenarian who infuses his paintings with joy. Congenial asever–he encourages passersby to stop and say hello while he ispainting on a street corner—Eichel is accustomed to hearing thatthose who are not generally drawn to fine art love his work.Indeed, accessibility is an important motivation for his work. “Tome, the job of an artist is finding something people are interestedin,” he said, in a magazine feature published in the January issueof Simply Saratoga. In addi-tion to the keynote speaker, six workshops will be offered at thisday long event. Christa Berthiaume will present the importantworkshop entitled “Elder Care”. She will discuss the changesthat occur with aging and the effects on both the person and theirloved ones. Highlighted will be ways to help care for aging friendsand family members, as well as resources available and the chal-lenges and benefits for all involved. Attendees at Women’s HealthDay will enjoy a continental breakfast with registration between8 and 9 AM. Lunch options are being prepared by Tammy Butlerof Jacko’s Corner Shoppe.
