Blinky’s RandomThoughts

These are actual comments made bySouth Carolina Troopers that were takenoff their car videos:1. “You know, stop

lights don’t come any redder than the one youjust went through.”2. “Relax, the handcuffs are tight because they’re new. They’llstretch after you wear them a while.”3. “If you take your hands off the car, I’ll make your birthcertificate a worthless document.”4. “If you run, you’ll only go to jail tired.”5. “Can you run faster than 1200 feet per second? Becausethat’s the speed of the bullet that’ll be chasing you.”6. “You don’t know how fast you were going? I guess thatmeans I can write anything I want to on the ticket, huh?”7. “Yes, sir, you can talk to the shift supervisor, but I don’tthink it will help. Oh, did I mention that I’m the shift supervisor?”8. “Warning! You want a warning? OK, I’m warning you notto do that again or I’ll give you another ticket.”9. “The answer to this last question will determine whetheryou are drunk or not. Was Mickey Mouse a cat or a dog?”10. “Fair? You want me to be fair? Listen, fair is a place whereyou go to ride on rides, eat cotton candy and corn dogs andstep in monkey poop.”11. “Yeah, we have a quota. Two more tickets and my wifegets a toaster oven.”12. “In God we trust; all others we run through NCIC.”( National Crime Information Center)13. “Just how big were those ‘two beers’ you say you had?”14. “No sir, we don’t have quotas anymore. We used to, butnow we’re allowed to write as many tickets as we can.”15. “I’m glad to hear that the Chief (of Police) is a personalfriend of yours. So you know someone who can post yourbail.”16. “You didn’t think we give pretty women tickets? You’reright, we don’t. Sign here ma’am.”

Corn News: Corn demand here in the US remains extremely strong. Export commitments arenow some 165% higher than last year at this time. Most sources thinking we need to sell fewerthan 1 million tons within the next 5 months to reach the current USDA export estimate. Moral ofthe story, despite Chinese cancelations the USDA will still need to raise there total export estimate.I am still sticking to my guns at 1.8 billion bushels. A number I threw out over three months ago andeveryone said I was nuts...Maybe??? Remember, in Argentina (the worlds #2 corn exporter)farmers seem more interested in harvesting soybeans right now rather than corn. The world's #3exporter, Ukraine, is still a bit of a concernfor some global importers. In other words Iam thinking US corn exports could remainstrong for a bit longer. The flip side to thisbullish part of the equation is that theInternational Grains Council is estimatingtotal global corn production at 961 milliontons, basically 7 million metric tons higherthan their previous estimate and 2 millionmetric tons higher than last year, puttingworld stocks at near 15-year highs. Or inother words about a 35% jump in stock injust two years time. Will it continue?

Jason McCann is afourth generation phar-macist working atMcCann’s Pharmacy &Adirondack Compound-ing. Located at 166 MainSt. in Hudson Falls, on theCircle, this business hasbeen serving the resi-dents of the Hudson Fallsregion for over 115years. That is quite theremarkable tradition, tosay the least. Jason alongwith his father, RichMcCann, brother Matt,Uncle Brian and Aunt

Kate continue the proud tradition and family name. This isn’t justanother pharmacy in a small town, but a place where familieshave been coming for 4 generations. The business has seen fami-lies grow and those families become part of the McCann family. Although much has remained the same over the years thereare many new and exciting things going on at McCann’s. UnderJason’s lead he is helping steer the family business into a newdirection, Compounding. What does this mean? The simple answer, compounding is the creation of a particularpharmaceutical product that is specific to a patients individualneeds. In order to do this a compounding pharmacist will com-bine or process ingredients using a variety of tools and tech-niques to create a patients unique medication/compound. Thereare several reasons for a patient to require a compounded medi-cation such as changing the dosage form from a solid pill to aliquid suspension because a patient cannot swallow pills or tab-lets. A few examples of why compounding is making a resur-gence: many patients may be allergic to one or more ingredientsof a manufactured medication, may require unique strengths orflavoring, or may wish to avoid certain side effects. Stop andthink about how life could have been easier if your child enjoyedthe taste of medications, or you didn’t have to chase your petsaround trying to force a pill down their throat. Take a patient thatis in significant pain but unable to swallow or keep medicine downthe traditional route, McCann’s can compound a cream or lotionthat will deliver the pain medication through the skin of the pa-tient. McCann’s can create unique creams, lotions, liquid sus-pensions, capsules, suppositories and various flavors. At Mcann’sthey “Mix it to Fix it!” In today’s healthcare market, doctors and patients are seeingthe benefits that compounding can offer them. Each patient isunique, so it is easy to see that the same medication will not workexactly the same for everyone. Why try to force something towork for you when you can have something created to meetyour needs? Many of the customers at McCann’s are excited totry the new service, and those that have do not know how theyever managed without their new compound. Since compounding is becoming such a large part of the phar-macy business, McCann’s has decided to remodel their store tobuild a compounding lab. Once completed the compounding staffwill be spending several hours in there, creating medications thatwill help to improve a patient’s disease state and health. To put aunique twist on the lab, it will have a large window allowing thosewalking or driving by the store to see the staff in action. Peoplewill get a firsthand view of what it takes to create medicationsand understand the care that goes into each step. McCann’sencourages people to stop down and watch the process once it isopen. So the next time you are at your doctor or veterinarians officelet them know what Jason and McCann’s Pharmacy & AdirondackCompounding can do for you, your children, your parents andyour pets. Stop in and see what compounding is all about and askany questions you may have, or give them a call at (518)-747-4732. The staff is friendly and always willing to go the extra mileto help you out.

Financial Reviewsby Breanna Fulper

Financial “Spring Cleaning” Can Brighten Your Investment PictureWe are all dreaming of the days getting longer and warmer — a sure indication of thearrival of spring. Another sign of the season may be the urge you get to do somespring cleaning. But you might not have realized that some of the same spring-cleaningtechniques that can be used on your home can also apply to your overall financialstrategy. Here are a few ideas to consider:· Get rid of “clutter.” As you do your spring cleaning, you may well find someclutter — a bunch of items you no longer need. You might look at your portfolio andalso find “clutter” in the form of investments that are no longer appropriate for yourobjectives. For example, perhaps some of them are virtual duplicates of other

investments you own, thereby diminishing your potential for diversification. Or maybe some investments are nowtoo risky for your needs. In any case, you may be better off rebalancing your portfolio.· Get organized. As you clean your home, you might find ways to organize your belongings and furniture moreefficiently. And you may also be able to organize your investments more effectively. One possibility: Considerconsolidating your investment accounts with one provider. If you have an IRA here, another one there and someother investments scattered about, you may be paying more in fees than is necessary. By consolidating theseinvestments, you might save money and paperwork — and more importantly, you may find it easier, with all yourinvestments under one “roof,” to follow a single, unified strategy or plan.· Seal “cracks.” Over time, the grout between your kitchen or bathroom tiles can crack, so you’ll need to re-grout to protect your flooring. And you may find that, in looking at your overall financial strategy, your “protection”component — primarily in the form of insurance — might have developed some “cracks” or “chips.” Specifically, has your life insurance kept up with changes in your family situation? Events such as marriage, remarriage or thearrival of a new child can all trigger the need to review your life insurance. And you’ll also want to make sure youhave adequate disability insurance. Consult with a financial professional for information on appropriate protectionvehicles.· Do some “dusting.” As part of your spring cleaning, you may need to dust furniture, shelves and other surfacesin your home. And if you’ve been investing your money for a long time, you may need to metaphorically “dust off”your financial strategy to “freshen it up” to reflect changes in your life. To cite one possibility, as you get close toretirement, you may need to shift some — but certainly not all — of your growth-oriented investments into income-producing ones. But you may also need to review and revise your financial strategy at other points in your life, suchas when you begin saving for your children’s college education. Just as spring cleaning can bring more light into your home, sprucing up your financial picture can help you brightenyour outlook of achieving your goals. And these improvements can help you in all the seasons of your life.
