You never know what’s in store….
This is just the start of a (life-long) journey.
The nuclear era…..Some good things (medicine, understanding the universe, power generation)….Some not so good things (cold war, fear of nuclear war, costs)
Still new discoveries to be madeand applications to big problems100 years after the ‘discovery’of the atomic nucleus.
For example, use of nuclear fusion for ‘safe’ electricity?
• Congratulations to all at Queens’ following their exam success, in particularly tonight’s prize winners.
• Education is a massive tool for good in human development….2011 is unrecognisable from 1911.
• Large challenges lay ahead for your generation (e.g., population, energy supplies, global warming).
• Use your knowledge to make critical and informed
decisions, particularly regarding politics and life choices.
• There’s really loads of interesting (science, arts and humanities) things still to be learnt.
• If you keep learning throughout your life, maybe you will discover something that makes a real difference….why not you ?
