Founded in 1984 to focus on the creation of
developments of character and quality to suit the
needs of a growing population of over 55s,
Beechcroft has, over the years, gained an enviable
reputation for its high quality housing.
Beechcroft selects the best locations in some of
the most attractive villages and small towns in
Southern England. Each development is built and
finished to Beechcroft’s award-winning standards
whilst each home, whether new build or conversion,
provides spacious, flexible living accommodation
designed according to Beechcroft’s principle
of creating fewer rooms rather than less space.
Hallways and landings are generously-
proportioned, principal rooms are able to
accommodate larger pieces of furniture and,
in homes with two or more bedrooms,
each is a double bedroom.
Each Beechcroft development also offers
something ‘special’ from extensive landscaped
gardens to attractive waterside settings or a private
swimming pavilion.
Beechcroft homes are ideal for those looking to
move from a large family house to a more
manageable home or for those looking for a ‘lock
up and leave’ property that will enable them to
travel or spend time abroad.

Stow-on-the-Wold, situated at the junction of
eight roads, including the Roman Fosse Way, is
one of the best-known towns in the Cotswolds.
A single glimpse of the picturesque Market Square
with its ancient cross, town stocks and beautiful,
mellow buildings, reveals a sense of the history
and charm that make this town a popular place
to visit and live.
Tradition suggests that the town was originally
named St Edward’s Stowe, after Edward, a
missionary who lived as a hermit at the town’s well.
As ‘Stowe’ means holy place and ‘Wold’ means hill,
the town later became known as Stow-on-the-
Wold. Today, St Edward is still evident in the town;
St Edward’s Church was built between the 11th and
15th centuries and St Edward’s Hall, built in the
Market Square in 1878, which now houses the
town’s library, has a figure of St Edward in a niche
over the main entrance.
Wells have played an important part in the life of
Stow-on-the-Wold; until fairly recent times, the
springs on Well Lane supplied the town with water.
In the early days, women and children carried the
water using yokes and buckets and, later, water
carts were used to transport the water to the town
where it was sold for a farthing a bucket!
Today, the refurbished top well in Well Lane is
Grade II Listed.
