Waste management has become one of the most unbeatable challenges faced by the people today.

In order to combat the problem in our school and the community, PHSS has come up with lots of

effective activities .As the new academic session started, students and teachers were excited to learn

about the new club in the school. The club is known as “WoW club” meaning wealth out of waste.

It consists of 30 members with four club advisors along with several activities.

T he first step taken by the club was during the annual school Rimdo. After the daylong program, the

club members helped the school in managing the waste generated during the program. We collected all

the waste and sorted out into different materials into different catogaries..

It was a good start for the club as we collected many degradable and non degradable waste.

The water is very important substance which is needed in our day to day lives. In the school also

if we don’t have safe drinking water, it is difficult to maintain a good hygiene of the learners as

well. With this objectives in our mind, the waste management committee decided to adopt the

water source of the school.

On 26th March, 2016 the waste management committee, health coordinator, UNESCO ASP net

coordinator, two supporting staffs and thirty student volunteers started journey from school at

11:00 am and reached water source at 12:00 noon. After reaching the spot, we divided ourselves

into two groups, one group to clean water source and reserve tanks, other group to mend the pipe

wherever there are leakages.

On 21st March His Holiness Garab Rinpoche Visited Tashichholing Dungkhag to bless the people. It was

huge amount of waste after the programme. The waste was brought back to the school.

Peljorling HSS is a partner with Clean Samtse Project .We bought two portable and detachable metal

dustbins from them. The dustbins are very useful to collect the waste especially during any big event in

the school or in the community as well.

Every Saturday, each class brings waste bottles, plastics, metals and papers to the school. It is marked as

interclass competition. So every Saturday when children brings wasted it is weighed and recorded by the

member. It is properly recorded as in the end of the year, the highest waste contributor class will be

rewarded.Till now we have collected around ten kgs of plastics bottles .

The school conducted annual Sports day on 26th of April. Here too the waste was managed by the club

members and the portable dustbins were used. The club and committee members also made beautiful

flowers from the waste plastic bottles for decoration during the sports day.

In the month of April, the club also made woolen foot mats out of waste clothes at home. The foot mats

were knitted with the bamboo sticks. The girls in the club wove the foot mat where as the boys painted

the waste dalda tins. The dustbins will be painted and some messages will be written and will be

distributed to different class and needy areas.

Afar from many other scheduled activities that we have in our WOW club plans, some of the activities

we have already done as reported above. It is not that these activities end here; we will keep on doing

such activities in near future too. Therefore we believe that this report will remind all of us about our

consistency and continued effort to educate and create awareness about waste management and

sustainable use of natural resources to our students and the community around us.
