My name is Eric Dickson and I grew up in Yorba Linda, Orange County. My father was a police officer for the City of Cypress for over thirty years and my mother showed Rhodesian ridgeback dogs, which gave her the opportunity to keep a close eye on me. I attended High school and college in Fullerton and I obtained a Bachelors Degree in Philosophy from California State University Fullerton. In 1997, after graduating college, I put myself through the full time basic police academy at Golden West College. I graduated as the Honor Recruit(number one overall), and was hired by the City of Hemet Police Department. Over the years I have had the opportunity to work a very wide range of assignments to include the TARGET Team, and CSU, as well as collateral assignments such as the Crisis Negotiations Team (as a member and later as the Team leader), and as an explorer post advisor. I have been awarded the CHP 10851 cvc award three times and have been awarded the departments Life Saving Medal, Purple Heart, and Silver Cross. I promoted to Corporal in 2004 and to Sergeant in 2006. I had the opportunity to serve as a patrol watch commander until 2009 when I was transferred to the office of Professional Standards (commonly known as Internal Affairs). In this assignment I was involved with Risk Management for the City and was tasked with ensuring that our officers were protected from false allegations or disciplined appropriately for inappropriate behavior. I promoted to Lieutenant in 2011 and returned to the Patrol Bureau. Over the last few years, Ive had the opportunity to manage most of our bureaus and I am currently assigned to the Community Services Bureau where I oversee our R.O.C.S. Team, Traffic Bureau, School Resource Officers, Crisis Intervention Team, PACT (Post Release Accountability Compliance Team), and Professional Standards. I also oversee our volunteer program and work closely with Capt. Brock on some of the departments newer things such as our App., the Historic Vehicle Unit, and our upcoming active shooter training through the ALICE Institute. The City of Hemet has always treated me well and I am very thankful for the opportunities this department has given me and the direction we are headed. As Chief Webb has said on numerous occasions – there are some amazing things happening in the valley right now, we just need to get people to start noticing them and to change the narrative. I live here and shop here and every time I drive down Florida Ave., on or off duty, I am so excited to see how much things are changing for the better. Do we still have a way to go? Sure, but collectively, we are only hurting ourselves when we refuse to focus on the positive thigs that are taking place. 450 E. What Will The Kids Do This Summer?

Ok so we often hear "there is nothing for kids to do in Hemet." If you have said or even

thought that you should drop into My City Youth Center. It is an awesome Youth Center run

by Dan Harris and his incredible team. Kids can participate in art, music, video games, skate

park, or just hang out. If you haven't checked it out, please do so. This is a true gem right in

the middle of Hemet! It is located at 145 N. Tahquitz.

Today, we received a SWEET surprise from

Lilli. This young lady is a Girl Scout with

Troop 2441 out of San Gorgonio who

decided that she wanted to thank ALL First

Responders in Hemet with a box of Girl

Scout Cookies

Several months ago, Lilli set a goal to raise

enough money to buy a box for each officer,

fire fighter, dispatcher, CSO, and support

staff for the Hemet Police Department and

Hemet Fire Department!!!!

She was successful in those endeavors and

delivered dozens, and dozens...and dozens

of cookies to our city's First Responders this

morning. Thank You, Miss Lilli, for your

generosity and support!!

It is with heavy hearts that we report the passing of retired Hemet

Police Chief Pete Hewitt on 5/31/19. Chief Hewitt served as our

Chief from 1998 to 2006. His law enforcement career spanned

over 37 years. He was proud of the time he spent working for the

Orange Police Department but 21 years of his career was

dedicated to working in the city of Hemet. Chief Hewitt was a

leader that cared about his employees and could often be found

walking the building checking on the welfare of our staff and their

families. He was a true “cops cop.”

Please keep the Hewitt family in your thoughts and prayers.

Walking is absolutely one of the best activities anyone can do.

The problem: Doing the same routine over and over makes it

easier to put your body and brain on autopilot. And when

you’re just going through the motions, your results will stall—

and you’ll get bored.

Luckily, all you need to do is shake up your walking routine to

challenge your body and brain in new ways. That’s where this

30-minute walk with cardio intervals comes in.

You’ll do a mix of steady-state walking, aerobics-based

bodyweight moves, and interval walking. “The key with

intervals is we work hard when we work hard,” says

SilverSneakers fitness expert David Jack. “And then we come

to a full rest so we can push a little bit again.”

You can do this workout on a treadmill or outdoors. You’ll

pause to do some bodyweight moves during your walk, so if

you’re using a treadmill, choose one in an area with less foot

traffic and open floor space around it.

Warm up with at least three to five minutes of easy walking.

Then perform the workout below. Cool down with deep

breathing and stretches of your choice.

During your workout, pay attention to how you feel.

Specifically, tune in to your rate of perceived exertion (RPE):

On a scale of 1 to 10, with 1 being the easiest and 10 being

the hardest, how hard are you working?

As always, safety is key. The exercises here may be different

or more advanced than those you’ll experience in a

SilverSneakers class. If you have a chronic condition, an

injury, or balance issues, talk to your doctor about how you

can exercise safely.

30-Minute Walk with Cardio Intervals

Trade your typical walking

workout for this routine that turns

up the intensity—and fun!

The REAL ID Act of 2005 established new standards for

state-issued driver’s licenses and identification cards.

Starting October 1, 2020, you’ll need a REAL ID card or

other federally approved document such as a valid U.S.

passport, passport card, or military ID to board domestic

flights or enter military bases and most federal facilities.

A REAL ID is not required to continue driving, but

can only be issued to California residents by the DMV.

The DMV accepts appointments by calling 1-800-777-

0133 during business hours or by using the DMV’s online

appointment system.

The Hemet Police

Department Volunteer

Program was created in

1993 as a way for citizens

to supplement the Hemet

Police Department’s

sworn officers.

The intention of the

program is for volunteers

to perform certain tasks

that otherwise would be

performed by sworn

police officers and

thereby allowing the

officers to spend more

time on the streets. The

volunteers operate a wide

variety of services for the

police department such

as:

Alzheimer Registration

Crime Scene Call Outs

Livescans Fingerprinting

Parking Enforcement

Traffic Control

Vacation Property Checks

Child / Adult Care
