QP Quaternary PaleoRecords Short Course Quantitative Methods in Paleoenvironmental Research May 12 - 14, 2010 9:00 am - 4:00 pm University of Minnesota - Minneapolis Campus May 12: Dr. Dan Gavin University of Oregon, (charcoal records & niche modeling) May 13: Dr. Maarten Blaauw Queen’s University, Belfast, U.K., (radiocarbon age-modeling) May 14: Dr. Julien Emile-Geay University of Southern California, (aggregating proxy information) This free, noncredit short course is directed to students and faculty from Geology, Geography, Ecology, Anthropology, Soil Science, and other disciplines, who wish to engage in a discussion of quanitative methods in evaluating environmental and ecological data. Dr. Gavin, Dr. Blaauw, and Dr. Emile-Geay will talk about the use of charcoal records, ecological niche models, radiocarbon age-modeling, and aggregating proxy information. Together we will explore multiple ways in which quantitative methods can be used to evaluate environmental and ecological datasets, and the implications for interpretation. University of Minnesota - Minneapolis Campus

May 12: Dr. Dan Gavin University of Oregon, (charcoal records & niche modeling)

May 13: Dr. Maarten BlaauwQueen’s University, Belfast, U.K., (radiocarbon age-modeling)

This free, noncredit short course is directed to students and faculty from Geology, Geography, Ecology, Anthropology, Soil Science, and other disciplines,

who wish to engage in a discussion of quanitative methods in evaluating environmental and ecological data. Dr. Gavin, Dr. Blaauw, and Dr. Emile-Geay will

talk about the use of charcoal records, ecological niche models, radiocarbon age-modeling, and aggregating proxy information. Together we will explore

multiple ways in which quantitative methods can be used to evaluate environmental and ecological datasets, and the implications for interpretation.
