Dental health

Dental health is a common concern with cats and dogs. Older pets, in particular, can develop conditions, such as calculus (tartar), gingivitis and are at risk of losing teeth. The American Veterinary Medicine Association (AVMA) estimates that around 75% of all cats and dogs develop oral health problems by the age of two. Salmonella challenge

Salmonella contamination is a risk in the pet food industry. The risk of contracting Salmonellosis from handling contaminated pet food items is well established. The United States (US) FDA (Food and Drug Administration)’s Center for Veterinary Medicine recognizes this and launched a nationwide investigation into Salmonella prevalence in dry pet foods, pet treats and supplements for pets, during 2011-2012. The US Center for Disease Control and Prevention even states that “dry pet food and treats often contain germs, including Salmonella” and provides consumer advice on proper handling and storage of such products to avoid contamination.
