The Job

1st4sport Qualifications (a brand of Coachwise) was approached bythe national governing body for water skiing in Great Britain, BritishWater Ski & Wakeboard, to develop a Level 2 coaching qualification,gain national recognition on to the Qualifications and CreditFramework (QCF), and support BWSW’s aspiration to achieve theUK Coaching Certificate (UKCC).

The Solution

1st4sport Qualifications formed a close working partnership withBWSW to begin the development of a qualification based on thenational occupational standards and common units for coaching atLevel 2, developed by SkillsActive (the Sector Skills Council for ActiveLeisure, Learning and Well-being). As part of the developmentprocess, 1st4sport Qualifications worked with BWSW to develop afull and comprehensive learner portfolio containing learning andassessment materials specific to water skiing and wakeboarding.

The Results

• The 1st4sport Level 2 Certificate in Coaching WaterSkiing/Wakeboarding (QCF) was accredited on to the QCF at thefirst submission, benefiting from 1st4sport Qualifications’experience of successfully working in similar partnerships withover 30 governing bodies of sport and gaining QCF recognition formore than 100 qualifications.

• The qualification gained UKCC endorsement and is considered tobe an exemplar submission. By working with 1st4sportQualifications, BWSW were able to address many UKCC criteriaby default.

• Comprehensive learning and assessment resources weredeveloped, including the Level 2 WSWB Coach Handbook, tosupport and complement the needs of the qualification.

But that’s not all. By working with Coachwise, BWSW was able totake advantage of more than just our qualification expertise.

To ensure BWSW coach educators were upskilled and adequatelyprepared to deliver their new coach education programme, they wereable to train and qualify their coach educators through theachievement of nationally recognised qualifications in the areas oftutoring and assessing delivered by Coachwise Learning.
