SCHEME OVERVIEW

QBred is a breeding and ownership incentive scheme for standardbred horses introduced to encourage breeding and racing horses that have been bred in the state of Queensland or are the progeny of a Queensland based stallion at time of service. Prospective owners have two alternatives to become part of the scheme, purchase or breed a QBred eligible horse.

HOW TO ACQUIRE A QBRED HORSE Breed a QBred eligible foal

A foal will be eligible for the QBred scheme as either a Single QBred or Double QBred should it match either of the criteria listed below:

Single QBred“a mare inseminated in Queensland with the semen of any registered standardbred stallion, that produces a foal which is born and notified in the state of Queensland”

OR

“a mare inseminated outside of Queensland with the semen of a standardbred stallion registered as standing in Queensland at the time of insemination, that produces a foal which is born in any state of Australia or overseas jurisdiction and the owner of that foal pays the required $88 QBred foal notification within 90 days of the foal being born”

Double QBred“a mare inseminated in Queensland with the semen of a standardbred stallion registered as standing in Queensland at the time of insemination, that produces a foal which is born and notified in the state of Queensland”

Purchase a QBred eligible horse

A QBred eligible horse may be purchased either through private treaty, from a claiming race or from a public sale.

NOMINATING A HORSE FOR QBRED Nominating a horse to be part of the QBred Incentive Scheme follows three easy steps:

1. At the time the foal is born payment of the QBred foal nomination fee (provided the foal meets the QBred foal eligibility criteria) enters the horse into the QBred Incentive Scheme.

2. At the commencement of the pacer’s 2YO, 3YO and 4YO racing season, receipt of the sustaining payment enters that horse into the QBred bonus scheme, the QBred Triad Race series and the QBred Breeders Classic race series for the respective season. Payment also allows the horse to remain eligible for the QBred bonus certificates. The horse only remains eligible if that year’s sustaining payment is paid.

3. At the commencement of the trotter’s 2YO, 3YO and 4YO racing season, receipt of the sustaining payment enters the trotter in the QBred bonus scheme, for the respective season.

Definition of a Breeder

Under the Australian Harness Racing Rules the definition of breeder refers to:

• In the case of a foal which is the result of an embryo transfer, the registered owner or lessee of the donor mare at the time the embryo is flushed from such donor mare and impregnated into a recipient mare.

• In all other cases, the registered owner or lessee of the dam at the time of last date of service.

This is the determining factor on who, as the breeder, will be paid the QBred bonus percentage where applicable.
