Why do we need a Railway in Qatar?
QRC Core Presentation 24 May 2011 2
The aim is to transform Qatar into a world class economy by 2030, capable of sustaining its own
development and providing for a high standard of living for all of its people for generations to come.
Seeking a comprehensive urban development plan for Qatar that adopts a sustainable policy with regard to urban expansion and population distribution.
Establish a high quality and integrated public transport network that results in a modal shift from private motor vehicles to public transport across Qatar , whilst recognising the right and desire of Qatari’s to transport choice.
Rapid rises in disposable incomes have lead to exponential growth in car ownership and with it, significant increases in road accidents and traffic congestion at peak times. Therefore, having a railway system will decrease the accident rates and traffic congestion and pollution.

Introduction to the Qatar Integrated Railway Project (QIRP)
Establish an Attractive, Safe and Highly Sophisticated Railway System within Qatar and connect the State of Qatar to the Kingdoms of Bahrain and Saudi Arabia
The Railway Network will comprise four Metro Lines and High-Speed Long Distance Passenger Lines and Freight Lines
One of the Key Drivers is the Provision of the Railway Services for the FIFA 2022 World Cup
The QIRP Budget is projected to be approx. QAR 130 billion
The Railway System needed for the World Cup will be operational by 2020; the Complete Railway System will be in place in 2026
