Who would be your audience?By Chloe Harrison and Clara Rodrigues

Age group chosen..

15 - 24We chose this age group as we wanted our target audience to be quite mature. For example if we wanted to attract ages below 15, our magazine genre would be ‘pop’, as the genre is R&B this is inappropriate for a younger audience as some lyrics are explicit and feature violence. Some of the artists could also look patronizing as some males are shirtless, big muscles, and look directly into the camera which can look quite dominant and not appropriate for children. Also females wear minimal clothing and can look quite seductive which is again inappropriate for young children.

Evidence of R&B female and male artists representation..

Beyoncé wears minimal clothing, and her subtitle says the following ‘Beyoncé strips down’ which appeals to both genders as males find her attractive and females aspire to be like her.

Akon is shirtless and has strong muscles, he also looks directly at the camera and points in the same direction. This is very dominant and patronizing to a younger audience.

Why 24? I had said in a previous essay that some of my audience will be attending university, I chose this as the older audience, and students may be interested in this type of music as they hear R&B music on ‘night outs’. I also feel the older audience are appearance orientated and like to feel attractive, as R&B artists wear minimal clothing this could be inspirations for females, which convinces them to purchase various issues as they like a certain R&B artist that features in the magazine. The females in the issue also appeal to men which again I have discussed in a previous presentation.
