How did it all begin?

Q-workshop was set up as a commercial enterprise in 2001, in Poznan (western Poland) by Patryk Strzelewicz. He named the company after his favorite character–Quentin, the Mage. Until then the people who now run Q-workshop were simply a group of enthusiastic gamers, busy constructing battle fields and accessories for their games. One day, when they had finished one of their most ambitious terrains, and were getting ready to play a game, they came to the conclusion that “ordinary” dice were not quite appropriate rolling next to their awesomely detailed gaming set-ups! Then they had an excellent idea: to design and create their own custom dice! It wasn’t long after, that they produced their first set of dice: a brown runic set. The group noticed a demand for such products on the Polish market, and was prompted to start selling their dice, beginning with online auctions and later on their own website.

The next stage in the history of Q-workshop was brought about when they started a Polish-language online forum. From there they have gained many ideas for new design of dice and accessories. During the next two months they designed four completely new products which had been proposed by forum users. For three years Q-workshop has been operating in Germany, presenting their products during SPIEL - the largest games and toys exhibition in Europe, taking place in Essen (Germany). Since January 2005 their dice have been available to customers from USA, Canada, and Western Europe. In 2006 & 2007 they appeared at GenCon Indy, where their dice evoked great interest in gamers from the other side of the ocean. Q-Workshop’s philosophy says that there are no such things as mere ideas - only projects. They feel that anything is possible on a square 15mm wide (the average length of a D6’s edge).Their main goal is to surprise, amaze, and please the gamers who use their beautifully crafted dice. They have over 1300 dice and accessory products available now, and are constantly working on new projects, and exploring new materials, paints, and patterns. Currently Q-workshop is the biggest producer of decorated dice in the world. Despite that the company is still located in Poland, it has a distribution network stretching all over the European Union and reaching to the United States. Unusual decorative dice have become an invaluable companion of gamers all over the world – turning many of them into regular collectors and fans.

One of most classic themes, Elves and their culture appear in most fantasy-themed games. The slender pointy-eared race is commonly perceived as artistic and highly sophisticated. Our dice reflect exactly that – they are highly exquisite and elegant, immediately appealing to eyes of every gamer. The dice are lavishly decorated with unique carvings in Elven language. Color schemes are pleasant and attractive, yet the numbers on the dice are highly visible and easily read. The texts carved on Elven Set have actual meaning, and can be translated with a little effort. As with all our dice sets, Elven Dice are available in all standard types (d4, d6, d8, d10, d12 and d20) and total of fifteen color schemes.

When one thinks about fantasy games, inevitably the image of flame-breathin dragon springs to mind. The mighty lizards are perhaps the best-known icons of the genre, so it was quite obvious that Q-workshop needs a Dragon Dice Set ! We created Battle Dice specially with tabletop wargamers in mind. Having to use dozens of D6 dice in each game means that typical dice designs come as somewhat unwieldy. Going ahead of wargamers needs, Q-workshop conceived a special 12mm size dice in Elven and Runic designs. The small size means that many of these dice can be effortlessly rolled to simulate frenzied hand-to-hand combat or shooting. Despite the size, Battle Dice keep in line with our tradition of matching great artistic value with clarity and ease of reading. The usual range of color schemes is available, and the Battle Dice set contains five D6.

Now Q-workshop offers you a chance to create you very own dice, suited to your taste, whim and fantasy.

It is Q-workshop who introduced the idea of Custom Dice, and currently is the only company to of-fer dice engraved on all sides, as opposed to mundane “gadget” dice with custom markings only on one or two sides.

Order a die created just for you! And don’t worry, as it will be as quick and simple as it can be. Everyone can conceive their own dice and have them made by Q-workshop. To create a project you need neither sophisticated and expensive applications nor supernatural talents. You just need to use your imagination.

FROM THE IDEA TO THE PROJECT

At start we would need a simple graphic project ! A scanned drawing or a simple project in MS Paint is enough – it will help us to know what You want !Once we have a general idea on how you would like your dice to look, we can get into details.Note: Q-workshop insists that each face of the die contains additional pattern apart from numbers – we are producing only truly unusual dice!

You would surely like to know more about our Custom Dice before mak-ing up your mind. There are made of special kind of polyester, which is our preciously guarded secret...

They are carved with high-precision machines, which allow us to achieve amazing level of detail. The glyphs are painted when they are about 1mm deep – this way we make sure that the colors won’t wear off even years of rolling.

You are probably wondering “how much is it going to cost me ?” The answer is “not that much !”

The price and the amount of time needed to complete your order does not depend on number of faces or complexity of design, the number of dice you want is the only relevant factor.

When sending us the project please specify how many dice you want to be made and in which colors. Having that information and the draft project we will be able to come up with prices and delivery time.
