The table stones on the slope of the fell date back to the time when the Sami people dwelled here. Thousands of years ago, these stones were used to sacrifice goods from the forest and lake to the gods, to ensure a good bounty for the years to come. BASIC TRAIL INFORMATION: • Start point: Vaarakyläntie 235-241, Taivalkoski • Length: 2 km • Duration: 2-3 h • Difficulty: easy (Flat or gently rolling terrain, firm and even surface, duckboards where necessary. The trail is clearly marked and signposted.) • Open: during the summer as a backpacking trail • Trail markings: Trail markers and yellow route markings SIGHTS: • Wilderness landscapes • Sacrificial grounds on the slopes of Lake Kostonjärvi RECOMMENDED GEAR: • Good running or hiking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing • Toilet paper, matches and a knife • Light meal and plenty of fluids SERVICES ALONG THE TRAIL: Lean-to shelter Dry toilet

TRAIL DESCRIPTION:

The route to the summit from the parking lot is two kilometres long. Halfway along the route, visitors can rest at a lean-to shelter. The route is on a forest road up until the lean-to shelter, after which the trail becomes more challenging. The route gradually ascends to an elevation of 160 metres along its two-kilometre path.

GOOD TO KNOW:• tour/mountain biking is

only allowed on roads and separately-marked biking routes along the trail.

• during forest fire warnings, making any open fires is expressly prohibited

• pets are welcome on the route and in the huts. Please remember to keep your animal friends leashed at all times.

• there are no waste receptacles at the rest stops, so please remember to "Leave No Trace”

• the dry toilets do not include any toilet paper
