The Christ Candle

Presbyterian Women are committed to a ministry of worship and work based on the understanding that all we do is a response to the glory and goodness of God. The Christ Candle burns as a visual reminder of God's presence as we acknowledge that we worship God in business decisions we make, the prayers we offer, and the programs we plan. Today, let this light speak to us as recorded in Matthew 5:14-16, as Jesus spoke to the crowd of followers, informing that they are the light of the world, calling them to let their light so shine that glory may be given to God. We encourage PW to use the Christ Candle as a constant reminder that all we do is done in His name.

The PWP of New Hope Symbol

The dominate symbol on the banner of the Presbyterian Women of the Presbytery of New Hope is a descending dove over the

open Bible. This shows the inspiration of the Holy Spirit founded on the Word. Centering their lives on the guidance of the

Spirit and the Word, three women, representing varied races and backgrounds, interlink hands to show unity through

cooperative effort. The Cross represents forgiveness. The descent of the Dove leads into the crossed keys of the Kingdom of

God, which are surrounded by the olive branches of peace toward which all Presbyterian Women work and aspire to achieve.

GUIDELINES FOR LOCAL CHURCHES HOSTING PW GATHERINGS

Hosting a gathering for Presbyterian Women – a presbytery-wide (250 – 275 anticipated attendance), an area gathering of (45 to 50 anticipated attendance), a meeting of the PWP Coordinating Team (20 to 25 anticipated

attendance) -- can be a rewarding and an informative experience.

The gifts of time, resources and hospitality contribute significantly to strengthening the connection between Presbyterian Women in the local congregation (PWC) and the Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery (PWP).

The following preparations are suggested:

Facilities Sanctuary and/or rooms to accommodate the expected attendance. Registration and resources areas with adequate tables. Five or six workshop areas with 15 to 20 chairs each. Bathrooms clearly marked (using both men’s and women's).

Registration Registrars will be from the host church. Name tags provided by host church and should be prepared in advance

of the gathering according to the early registration. Blank name tags should be available to be used as needed.

Program Program will be prepared by members of the PWP Coordinating Team in cooperation with the local PW moderator and her Gathering Committee. Host church secures organist/pianist and arranges any special music. Host PW Moderator gives welcome and includes any “housekeeping” details. Host church provides minister and elders for communion if needed. Host church provides ushers for seating, offering and any necessary assistance.
