How many staff who work in health in Bromley have undertaken Learning Disability Awareness training?

We are concerned that information won’t be produced in Easy Read as it has been at the Learning Disability Partnership Board. Can you tell us how you intend to ensure that information provided pre, during and post the conferences are accessible to everyone?

How long will the benefits such as Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Universal Credit take to get up and running?

What are your plans to ensure that the potential service users and their families have ready access to free and independent advice on their entitlement to benefits and other services, followed by assistance in challenging decisions if they disagree with them? During the past 2 to 3 years there have been many cuts in the services of this type in the Borough so how do you plan to support the redevelopment of them as part of holistic support for the whole community?

Question 07:

There are many people not only in emotional crisis but also in financial crisis because they have had to give up work to look after a family member who is mentally ill – do you think there is enough crisis support services for those in dire need both the mentally ill person and the carer?Is more money going to be diverted to counselling and psychiatric care?Do you think the mental health provision for the elderly mentally ill is sufficient?

Should places at the Adult Services Stakeholder Conference reflect the ‘Actual Ratio of Services usage by Clients, based on previous Annual figures, across the Services range’?

What do you see are the challenges for joint working in a time of pressurised budgets, conversely what are the opportunities?

Question 10:

Now the Independent Living Fund Judicial Review appeal has been won by five Independent Living Funds (ILF) claimants and the Department for Works and Pensions (DWP) is re-looking at the ILF, how will this affect current ILF recipients in Bromley. And what will happen to new people who need ILF support?

Question 11:

• There are a number of issues for people who receive Domiciliary Care: – lack of consistency in who comes into a person’s home to provide the

care, which can be especially upsetting especially for people with dementia;

– care not being provided at a time which is suitable for individuals and there is no flexibility to change the times of visits, when needing to go to a hospital appointment early in the morning for example;

– the inexperience of the care worker which can lead to distressing situations for the care worker due to the conditions a person may have;

– care workers not allowing people to carry out tasks they are capable of doing;

– care workers not staying for the full time allocated for the care – bullying of the person being cared for.
