killed all within the month of July. In 2010 a number of basketball courts in Chicago were shut down

due to crime related issue. In 2009 Elmwood Park rims were temporarily removed during

certain parts of the day and completely remove in 2011 Other communities soon after elected the same decision.

From 2010 to 2012 the black population increased from 1.6% to 8.17% in Elmwood Park.

From 2010 to 2011 the number of robberies, assaults, burglaries, theft and auto thefts have all increased

Positive In the United States 1 out of 3 kids are consider overweight and obese. Obesity leads to a higher risk for type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure,

higher cholesterol, coronary artery disease (CAD), and stroke. Having the basketball rims up allows the kids to get their exercise in. With todays technology the average child spends 5-7 hours in front of a

screen and can cause irregular sleeping, impaired academic performance and behavior issues

Negative Gang members and drug dealers use the courts as

advantage to recruit member and sell drugs. Gang members mark the courts as their own territory Fights breakout on the courts that sometimes causes

guns to be drawn putting the lives at danger. Putting the rims back up could be risky especially if the

city is not under control.

Mediation More police and security need to room around the

area. Security cameras need to be installed. Parents need to report anything that looks suspicious

and cooperate with police. Mayor Rahm Emanuel needs to enforce a stricter gun

law to limit number of guns on the streets.
