Job Title: Events Manager

Salary grade: £32,000

Role type: Permanent, Full Time

Reporting to: Head of Corporate Communications

Management responsibility: Events Officer

Purpose of the post:To deliver the London Sport Events Programme, comprising established and to-be-established events including Award ceremonies, conferences, launches, networking events, exhibitions and other events as determined by the 3-year London Sport Events Strategy.

To facilitate and enable the growth of London Sport’s Events Programme, in-line with commercial, operational and strategic objectives.

To ensure that London Sport events support the growth and development of the London Sport brand and associated properties.

To service and support internal and external stakeholders in all Events-related matters, providing exemplary service and engagement with a range of senior figures and organisations engaged with London Sport and its vision of making London the most physically active city in the world.

Main activities and responsibilities

1. Plan, monitor and successfully deliver an annual Events Programme comprising a small number of major events and a larger programme of targeted smaller events, as set out in the London Sport Events Strategy

2. Ensure that events are delivered on time, to budget and in line with organisational objectives and parameters

3. Manage supplier, agency and provider relationships ranging from venues, caterers and AV companies to speakers, designers, photographers, and any other key points-of-contact for successful event delivery

4. Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, including Board and Senior Management Team, ensuring that events are integrated across the organisation and achieve internal buy-in

5. Become the key point-of-information around trends, best-practice, and content setting for London Sport events, ensuring the Events Programme offers an industry-leading experience to speakers, delegates, sponsors, partners and London Sport staff

6. Manage, monitor and report on the Events budget, securing value for money in all transactions and commercial activities

7. To effectively manage the events officer ensuring they are supported, coached and performance managed)

8. Support colleagues in Communications and Marketing functions in the development of content and collateral to drive thought leadership agendas through event delivery

9. Provide regular monitoring, analysis and reporting for Events-related metrics and KPIs

10. Represent London Sport at forums, events and meetings where necessary

11. To undertake any duties deemed relevant by Senior Management Team or External Relations management

Location

The role will be located primarily in London Sport office in House of Sport, central London but travel to attend meetings and carry out other work-related duties will be required across the whole of London and occasionally beyond.

Working Hours

The role is a permanent, full-time role with the successful candidate expected to schedule their programme of work around key Events deliverables, with recognition of higher workload levels at peak Event moments in the year. This role may include some evening and weekend work as required

Selection Criteria:

A. A degree or equivalent qualification

B. Excellent logistics, project-management and organisational skills

C. A strong understanding of different Event types, structures and requirements

D. Experience of end-to-end Event delivery at a range of scales and to broad audience types

E. Experience of delivering complex project-management, either in Events or in a closely-related professional discipline

F. Excellent time-management skills and a proven record of working under pressure

G. Excellent communication and inter-personal skills; the ability to enthuse, persuade, negotiate and influence in the spoken word and in writing

H. An excellent knowledge of the Events landscape, including current and future trends

I. Ability to work on own initiative and as part of a team

J. Ability to work under pressure and to adopt a flexible approach to working methods

K. Excellent IT skills

L. Able to demonstrate an understanding of equality and diversity, and its practical application

M. A commitment to personal development and the development of others

N. Experience of managing and developing others in a line management capacity
