EXPECTED RESULTS PURPOSE MICRO-CREDITS FOR SMALL COFFEE PRODUCERS NICARAGUA - approved by the Efico Fund on 05/01/2016 Location Jinotega Description • Provision of small loans to 25 women coffee producing members of Aldea Global. • These women use the funds to invest in the purchase of agricultural inputs, work tools and small equipment for the maintenance of their coffee plantations. In addition, they will invest in improvements to the infrastructure of their wet mills for washing their coffee that will be sold on the international market. Income diversification is one of the results of their investment. • The women internally repay the loans with their return on investment and Aldea Global then loans these funds again to benefit more members. Project Budget Efico Fund contribution: € 6,000 = first phase of this project Project Duration July 2015 to July 2016 PARTNERS Aldea Global www.aglobal.org.ni • Project applicant • Civil association of 2,760 smallholder farmer members (of which 802 women) in north central Nicaragua • Disposes of two business centres: facilitating micro- credits and commercialization of coffee production & one Non-Financial Services Unit (SNF) that facilitates training processes, gender work, business development of grassroots organisations, municipal engagement, and financial education with smallholder coffee growers Chacun Son Café & Big Bang Coffee www.chacunsoncafe.fr www.bigbangcoffee.com • French coffee roaster & coffee solutions provider • Funding partner 1) There will be a greater social benefit to a larger number of coffee growers and their families. 2) A greater growth of the portfolio will lead to increased growth in the commercialisation of coffee. 3) With a larger credit volume, more funds will be attracted and financial costs will decrease. This funding proposal fits within Aldea Global’s 2015-2019 Strategic Plan. The following institutional strategic objective is aimed at: Provide financial products and services adjusted to the market, climate change and the needs of the Aldea family, developing a competitive advantage based on accessibility of services and reasonable costs. a) Aldea Global seeks to promote development of rural micro-finance activity with smallholder coffee growers. b) Aldea Global addresses the unmet need for working capital for individual farmers and for farmers in solidarity groups in the coffee sector. TARGET GROUP The target group consists of small coffee farmers depending directly on their activities for survival. They live in rural areas. In this first project phase, 25 women coffee producing members of Aldea Global receive micro-credits.
