A tree planting ceremony was arranged at chenab park Jhang by Mr. Gohar Mushtaq Division Forest Officer Jhang and Mr. Naseer Khan Conservator of Forests Faislabad, on 19.04.2011 and was marked by fixation of stone for the establishment wildlife park within its premises. Mr. Babar Hassan Bharwana Secretary FWF&T Department along with Mehr Sultan Bharwana MPA, Tahir Hussain Commissioner Faislabad, Muhammad Jahenzab Khan Secretary Livestock, Muhammad Shahid Niaz DCO Jhang, Syed Rizwan Mehboob Add. Secretary FWF&T Department, Muhammad Mehbub-ur-Rehman CCF Central Zone Lahore, Zafar Nasrullah Khan DG Wildlife & Parks, Muhammad Ashraf DG Fisheries and Mr. Naseer Khan CF Faislabad participated. Secretary Forests, during his speech, informed the participants about the efforts made by Punjab Forest Department. Publicity Forest Division hoisted the banners, steamers and established a publicity stall, which was appreciated by all participants. Syed Rizwan Mehboob showed deep interest in various publicity materials and appreciated the efforts of Muhammad Mehbub-ur-Rehman for publishing such wonder material for general public.

TREE PLANTING CEREMONY AT BOTANICAL SOCIETY GOVT. COLLEGE TOWNSHIP, LAHORE.A Tree Planting Campaign was held under the auspices of Botanical Society Govt. College Township, Lahore, by the Publicity Forest Division. The campaign commenced with plantation of tree saplings by students, teachers and the Principal, Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Butt. Syed Muhammad Akmal Rahim delivered a lecture on “Earth Day” followed by a long series of answer and question. Dr. Muhammad Ijaz Butt paid a great tribute to the efforts of Punjab Forest Department for delivering such informative lecture on Forests, Environment, Biodiversity and pollution and for creating general awareness amongst the students.

CONDOLENCE (i) The Punjab Forest Department is deeply saddened on the sad demise of retired DFO, Rana Muhammad Aslam Zaman, who died at the age of 75, after a prolonged illness. May his soul rest in peace.(ii) Deepest sympathy is extended to the Rana Masood, CCF and his family on the untimely death of his son, Rana Mansoor, Tourism Deptt:who passed away after sudden heart attack.

WORKING PLANA meeting was chaired by Mr. Babar Hassan Bharwana Secretary FWF&T Department regarding the approval of the working plans written by Syed Muhammad Ajmal Rahim CF Sargodha. The secretary was assisted by Syed Rizwan Mehmoob Add. Secretary and Mr. Shahid Rashid Awan D.S Planning. After a long discussion and arguments by Mr. Mehbub-ur- Rehman CCF Central Zone, Mr. Abdul Basit CF Working Plan, Lahore, Dr. Muhammad Rafique CF Gujranwala, Rao Khalid Mehmood CF Lahore, Naseer Khan CF Faislabad and few DFO's for each zone, working plans of various plantation were approved after few amendments as desired.(i) Changa Manga (ii) Daphar (iii) Pipli Phar (iv) Kamalia and Shorkot plantation. Secretary Forests appreciated the efforts made by CF Sargodha Syed Muhammad A j m a l R a h i m a n d h o u s e , f o r t h e i r contributions. After a long, dormant phase, a new era has begun that has rekindled hope and has opened doors for amendments and improvements !

(i) Muhammad Mehbub-ur-Rehman CCF Central Zone, Lahore inspected the Gujranwala Forest Division on 7.04.2011. He shared his vision and gave his valuable guidance to field staff. He also appreciated the efforts of the DFO Gujranwala and lower staff. (ii) Mr. Babar Hassan Bharwana Secretary FWF&T Department and Muhammad Mehbubur- Rehman CCF Central Zone, Lahore along with Rao Khalid Mehmood CF Lahore and DFO Lahore, conducted a general survey of Ring Road Lahore regarding afforestation. Secretary Forests directed CCF to make comprehensive afforestation plans for the 'ring road'.

EXPOSURE VISIT FOR WETLAND MANAGEMENT IN IRANThe WWF (Pak) organized one week of exposure visit for wetland management in Iran, through the technical assistance of CWIP, Iran. The participants included Dr. Zafar Nasrullah, Director General, Wildlife Department, Mr. Shahid Rashid Awan, Deputy Secretary (Planning) FWF&T Deptt, Mr. Abdul Munaf, DIG, Mr. Masood (WWF), DCO Gowadar, Mr. Saeed uz Zaman, CCF (Wildlife) KPK, Mr. Ismail, CF (Wildlife) Gilget Baltistan and Mr. Javid Ayub (AJK). The participants visited Shiraz, Tehran, North Azarabaijan & Tabriz cities of Iran, where the wetland management practices were explained to the participants. It may be mentioned that under RAMSAR Convention, Pakistan is a member and the RAMSAR city is also located in Iran along Caspian Sea. The participants were exposed to different m a n a g e m e n t p l a n s o f w e t l a n d s i n consideration to various climatic changes. The exposure visit was reported to be very beneficial for the offices visiting Iran from the Punjab Province

thDepartment, on 4 April, 2011, by Syed Muhammad Akmal Rahim DFO Publicity regarding various activities carried out by the Publicity Forest Division. Honorable Secretary personally appreciated the painstaking efforts of Mr. Muhammad Sharif Designer, Haji M. Amjad Artist, Amir Shujat Photographer and Shahid Mehmood Siddiqui, on receiving the First Prize in stall competition at Bhakkar. He also expressed his deep interest in the photo albums of all the ceremonies held by the Publicity Forest Division during spring tree plantation campaign 2011. DFO Publicity also briefed him about the problems of this Division regarding Budget and other resources. The Secretary appreciated the Forest Update and directed to retrieve and publish all achievements from lower formation too. He further appreciated the Publicity material and advised to elevate its quality and quantity to meet the to world standards. On the direction of Administrative Department, the publicity staff led by Syed Muhammad Akmal Rahim briefed Syed Rizwan Mehboob Add. Secretary FWF&T Deptt:, Shahid Rashid Awan Deputy Secretary Planning about the publicity activities of Publicity Forest Division. Syed Rizwan Mehboob congratulated the publicity team on winning of First Prize in stall competition and also for their out standing performance during spring tree plantation campaign 2011, especially various lectures delivered by Syed Muhammad Akmal Rahim DFO Publicity. Deputy Secretary Admin and Deputy Secretary Planning, also paid great tribute to the publicity team.

CHIEF CONSERVATOR OF FORESTS MEETS THE PUBLICITY STAFF

Muhammad Mehbub-ur-Rehman Chief Conservator Forests, Central Zone, Lahore appreciated the efforts made by the Publicity Forest Division regarding current spring tree plantation campaign 2011 in response to the briefing given by Syed Muhammad Akmal Rahim DFO Publicity, on 23.04.2011 in committee Room at 24-cooper road, Lahore. A Photo album capturing all the ceremonies held by Publicity Forest Division during current Tree planting campaign, 2011, was presented to the CCF. The Publicity team thanked Muhammad Mehbub-ur-Rehman for his support, guidance and dynamic leadership, who generously praised the publicity team who for winning first prize at Bhakkar is stall competition in which 17 other departments participated.

A DDAC meeting was chaired by Mr. Babar Hassan Bharwana Secretary FWF&T Department on 23.04.2011 in the Committee Room of Forest Complex 24-cooper road, Lahore, where, Dr. Muhammad Arshad along with Sheikh Irshad Conservator Multan, Syed Altaf Hussain Bukhari Conservator D.G Khan Sheikh Azam and Conservator Bahawalpur briefed about audit paras. Syed Rizwan Mehboob Add. Secretary FWF&T Department and Director Budget Sheikh Gulzar Ahmad assisted the Secretary FWF&T Department.
