    has only one major railway station located in Sangamvadi.

    By Road

    There are 3 National Highways (NH) and an expressway traversing through Pune. It

    just takes about 3 hours to reach Pune from Mumbai airport via the Pune-Mumbai

    expressway. Both private and state-owned transport companies (MSRTC) operate

    luxury buses on this route, and run 24 hours service with buses departing every 15

    minutes. MSRTC buses charge approximately Rs 185 (Non AC) and Rs 250 (AC) for

    the Journey. NH 9 runs to Machhlipatnam in Andhra Pradesh and passes through

    Karnataka and cities like Sholapur, Homnabad, Hyderabad and Vijayawada. NH 50

    is an inter-state highway which connects Pune with Nasik.

    Buses are available here for Vidarbha, Konkan, Marathwada and NorthernMaharashtra. A few services connect with other ci ties in the neighboring state of

    Gujarat as well. Buses provided by Gujarat Roadways ply on Vadodara, Ahmadabad,

    Surat, Kandla and Rajkot route. The bus station is located outside Shivaji Nagar

    Pune is the cultural capital of Maharashtra. The Marathi film industry

    is also based out of Pune.

    Raja Dinkar Kelkar Museum

    The museum is housed in a Rajasthani style building situated close to

    the hustle and bustle of the busy Bajirao Road. It holds a collection of

    the most fascinating Indian arts and crafts which is worth visiting.

    National War Museum

    The citizens of Pune, under the sponsorship of the Express Citizens'

    Forum, set up the War Memorial fund. The memorial is a 25-foot

    stone pillar.

    Shaniwar Wada

    This palace was

    built by the successors of Shivaji, the Peshwas in

    1736.This palace is situated in the heart of the city next to Deccan

    Gymkhana, Shivajinagar, and Laxmi Road.

    Vishram Baugh Wada

    Its in the heart of the Old city. It was built during the 18th Century by a

    descendant of Shivaji the Peshwa. It is well known for its elaborate

    wooden facade.

    Aga Khan Palace

    A gracious building which consists of Italian arches salons, suites and spacious lawns.

    The palace belonged to Aga Khan, Prince and Head of Khoja Sect who later donated

    the palace in order to erect a memorial, in the memory of Mahatma Gandhi and his

    wife Kasturba who died in this palace. The place is full of tranquility and solace.

    Pune University

    The site of Pune University, stately mansions at Ganeshkhind built in Italian-Gothic

    style was the official residence of the Governor of Mumbai during the monsoon

    season. It is one of the oldest universities of India.

    Fergusson College

    Built in 1885, the college has beautiful tree-lined campus with smooth rolling hills inthe background.

    Bund Garden

    This garden is also known as the Mahatma Gandhi Udyan. It was built by Sir Jamshedji

    Jeejeebhoy, on the right bank of the Mula-Mutha to provide the poor with water

    during summer. Main attraction here is the evening boat rides, horse rides etc. The

    garden is also famous for bhel-puri and pani-puri.

    Sinhagad and Khadakwasala

    This is a fort nearby which is a beautiful place to see. This is one of the historic places

    from King Shivaji era. Khadakwasala has a dam and this place is famous for scenic

    beauty. A lot of people visit this place during the rainy season.

    Mahabaleshwar

    This popular hill resort, in the state of Maharashtra, was once the summer capital of

    the Bombay Presidency, during the days of the British. Situated at an altitude of 1372

    meter, Mahabaleshwar has splendid panoramic views of the scenic valley, and of the

    sea, which is quite visible on clear days. Like other hill stations, Mahabaleshwar

    closes during the monsoon season. During this period, from mid-June to mid-

    September, the local buildings are covered with Kulum grass to prevent any damage

    from the torrential rains.

    Pratap Gadh (Mahabaleshwar)

    At a distance of 25 km from Mahabaleshwar stands the majestic Pratapgadh housing

    the tomb of Afzal Khan at the toe of the fort. There is a temple of Bhavani Mata, the

    idol of worship of King Shivajiraje Bhosle. There is a statue of Shivaji Maharaj inside

    the fort called Bale Killa.

    Panchgani

    Panchgani is situated 20 km East of Mahabaleshwar and spreads out over five hills.

    The name actually means 'five lands' and in this very popular hill station that bears

    the Raj stamp all over it, you can have some excellent views of the flat surrounding. It

    is also famous for its boarding schools, its Parsee bungalows, the fresh air, tasty

    strawberries and the rich Indians who like to spend some time here. Picturesque

    Panchgani has served as the background for several films.

    From Mahabaleshwar, it takes only 20 to 25min to reach Panchgani. It can also be

    easily visited from Pune or Mumbai.

    Deccan Gymkhana

    Established in 1906 in Pune, Deccan Gymkhana is one of the oldest sports clubs in

    India. Spread over 15 acres of area, the club has eight sports departments for cricket,

    swimming, table tennis, volleyball, gymnasium, billiards and cards, tennis and

    basketball. Various sports facilities are available on rental basis for corporatemembership and for individuals. Every sports department conducts summer and

    winter coaching camps for the beginners. The recreation center has a club house, bar

    and restaurant, and a swimming pool. There are 4 luxuriously decorated AC rooms

    with cable TV for the use of members and their guests.

    Pune has a full calendar of events, ranging from classical music to rock concerts

    Pune's most Famous Festival is the Pune festival, which is held during the Ganesh

    Mahotsav.

    The Ganesh Mahotsav initiated by Tilak today is celebrated with

    great enthusiasm as city interiors almost remain blocked for ten days.

    The city has more than 2000 Mandals with Dagdusheth halwai being

    the biggest and the most famous one.

    Sawai Gandharva, which started back in the 1960s, has had every

    Indian and international artist perform and has given rise to a number

    of budding ones too. It is held in the months of December from dawn

    to dusk over 3 days.

    The Osho Festivalis another international crowd puller in Pune. Held

    in the Osho Ashram in Koregaon Park, the disciples and followers ofBhagwaan Rajneesh make it a point to attend this festival.

    The Chatushrungi Fair is an annual event. It is held overnight on

    Navratri at Senapati Bapat Road.

    The Pune International film festival takes place annually and attracts

    some splendid films from around the World.

    A number of college festivals have become much commercialized, but still they

    attract big crowds and a very high degree of competition from colleges all over the

    city.

    Verve organized by Express Youth Forum is the biggest inter-collegiate culturalfestival in India. Concepts" organized by the Pune Institute of Computer Technology

    (PICT) is a very popular engineering event.

    Pune is a city where you will find an excellent range of street side shops as well as a

    few outstanding malls. Pune is a good place to pick up some Indian slippers made of

    rubber. All the places listed here are places where you can bargain and get some good

    stuff off the pavement at rock-bottom prices.

    M.G. Road

    Any item such as shoes, clothing, pots, pans, electronics, stationary,

    furniture, and kitchen sinks etc. Laxmi road is a very huge market

    which sells gold jewelry and clothes.

    Hill forts

    The popular trip which can be covered within a day is Pune -

    Bhuleshwar - Purandar - Sinhagad Pune. This round trip covers

    some of the interesting hill forts. The total distance is about 220km

    and will take 6 hours to drive the loop including lunch and sightseeing.

    Tulsi Baugh

    It is a must visit and is also a favorite middle-class family shopping

    area. A wide range of ladies garments, footwear and other items

    required for daily use are available at low prices.

    Fashion Street

    Located in the Pune Camp area near M.G. road is a special market I

    where you can easily bargain your way to a lot of inexpensive ready-

    Koregaon Park

    There are small exclusive boutiques which have a good collection of clothes. These

    stores might be a little expensive, but you may find the occasional great bargain as

    Malshej Ghats is among the most popular outing spot from Pune. It is
