SPIRIT OF RUGBY

What is the Spirit of Rugby?The Spirit of Rugby programme is a framework through which World Rugby invites organisations to collaborate on approved projects using rugby as a tool for societal development. The programme is aligned with World Rugby’s mission to grow the global rugby family and vision of a sport for all, true to its values. As such, the Spirit of Rugby programme is driven by rugby’s core character-building values - integrity, respect, solidarity, passion and discipline.

Partner Profile World Rugby invites submissions from interested organisations with the following profile:

Non-political, non-religious organisations

Registered charities/not-for-profit organisations providing up-to-date audited accounts

Organisations with an international focus

Organisations using rugby or sport in general as a catalyst for development

Project ScopeThe scope of projects should include but is not limited to the following:

Activities across appropriate themes including social inclusion, gender equity, peace building, health, education, environmental sustainability and sport for all

Duration of between 12 to 24 months or more

Sustainable, scalable projects delivering measurable return on investment

Partner benefits & obligationsAs a recognised Spirit of Rugby partner, successful applicants may benefit from the following:

Official endorsement from World Rugby, a respected international sports federation

Access to the World Rugby brand for approved use

Access to World Rugby development, training and education resources

Opportunities to engage with World Rugby and its networks including member federations, regional associations, commercial partners and suppliers

Increased profile through access to World Rugby media channels including:

o Online, social and traditional media

o World Rugby TV

Access to World Rugby tournaments, events and other properties

Financial support (GBP£5k-£15k max)

Partners should ensure that their projects:

Complement World Rugby values, activities and objectives

Involve World Rugby regional associations and affiliated national federations

Application processInterested parties with suitable proposals meeting the above Partner Profile and Project Scope criteria should complete the application form below and return it to [email protected].

Proposals must have clear objectives with measurable outcomes to facilitate monitoring and final evaluation. They should also provide a proposed budget detailing partner investment, a communications plan and demonstrate how collaboration with World Rugby, its members and regional associations will take place.

Applications received by the deadline will be scored and assessed against World Rugby’s development priorities, current and planned projects, and available resources.

The invitation to submit a project application does not guarantee a successful application. World Rugby reserves the right to support a project in its entirety or any part thereof.

Successful applicants will be required to sign a Spirit of Rugby Partner Agreement which will detail the rights and obligations attributed to each party as well as the duration of the agreement.

Project timelines* July 2016 - Call for applications

19 August 2016 - Deadline for submission of applications

September 2016 - Review by World Rugby of applications, shortlist compiled

October 2016 - Recommendations sent to World Rugby Executive Committee for approval

November 2016 - Successful applicants notified

January 2017 - Partner Agreements confirmed, project implementation begins
