He makes clothing that is fun, exciting, of good quality, and very wearable. For bags, I love Gucci. For shoes, I love Prada and Fratelli Rossetti. Do you have any favorite trends this season? I am all about pattern and color. Of course, coral is a strong contender for this season – it is a color that is universally flattering. I also believe in 100 percent natural fibers, especially for summer. What is your No. 1 style tip? Wear color! Do not be afraid. Color makes people happy and makes them smile. Artist, designer and textile connoisseur Jean Marie Clarke prefers clothes with an eclectic edge when it comes to both dress- ing herself and designing her Pax Philomena collections. Pax Philomena pairs vibrant Indian block prints with timeless Italian style, resulting in pieces that invoke beauty, color and comfort. Clarke’s connections to India and Italy — she studied abroad in Rome and worked for a textile mill in Italy — and her travels have greatly influenced her worldly designs. “My style is influenced by style icons from the countries that I visit for work,” she says. “For example, the designs for the hand-block prints are inspired by traditional Indian patterns, to which I add a Western flair and update with modern colors.” Clarke’s vibrant closet holds a treasure trove of designer pieces with deeply rooted stories. From her one-of-a-kind Emilio Pucci silk shirt that was made for Grace Kelly to the patent leather Prada sandals that have traveled the world with her, you’ll rarely find the designer without a pop of color. What are your favorite brands? For clothing, after my own brand, Roberto Cavalli. He makes clothing that is fun, exciting, of good quality, and very wearable. For bags, I love Gucci. For shoes, I love Prada and Fratelli Rossetti.

Do you have any favorite trends this season?I am all about pattern and color. Of course, coral is a strong contender for this season – it is a color that is universally flattering. I also believe in 100 percent natural fibers, especially for summer.

What is your No. 1 style tip?Wear color! Do not be afraid. Color makes people happy and makes them smile.

Artist, designer and textile connoisseur Jean Marie Clarke prefers clothes with an eclectic edge when it comes to both dress-ing herself and designing her Pax Philomena collections. Pax Philomena pairs vibrant Indian block prints with timeless Italian style, resulting in pieces that invoke beauty, color and comfort. Naturally, much of Clarke’s own style is reflected in her clothing line.

As the daughter of a dressmaker, the India native has an aesthetic that marries a passion for color and craftsmanship with an appreciation for European style that embodies the essence of all things Italian.

Clarke’s connections to India and Italy — she studied abroad in Rome and worked for a textile mill in Italy — and her travels have greatly influenced her worldly designs.

“My style is influenced by style icons from the countries that I visit for work,” she says. “For example, the designs for the hand-block prints are inspired by traditional Indian patterns, to which I add a Western flair and update with modern colors.”

Clarke’s vibrant closet holds a treasure trove of designer pieces with deeply rooted stories. From her one-of-a-kind Emilio Pucci silk shirt that was made for Grace Kelly to the patent leather Prada sandals that have traveled the world with her, you’ll rarely find the designer without a pop of color.
