President’s Message

PCA is a club that completely runs on volunteer efforts. There are no paid positions or roles in our club. Yet we continue to have our terrific Puli News and Puli Post published, we con-tinue to keep track of our funds, we continue to put on a National Specialty each year with the many important volunteers that make it happen, there's the website, Facebook page, Book of Titleholders, interfacing with and providing information to the public, and on and on. We are all lucky these people give their time on our behalf. And yet, it is often difficult to recruit people to help. Some positions remain unfilled, and some functions just don't get done. I've heard it said that for many clubs like ours, it is only a small group of people who do the work, yet I've also heard members say they want to help, but just don't know how to make that happen. So the Board and I are soliciting your input - how can we make it easier to volunteer? Have you seen other volunteer-based organizations that do a better job here? Let us know your thoughts and ideas. And a big Thank You to all of you who have volunteered, in the past and now. We all are grateful for your efforts. Jim Moen, President

Corresponding Secretary Report for June 2018 Puli News.

The breeder Survey has been completed with the blinded and confidential results tabulated in a simple power point. This data was presented to the Board the meet-ing held in April 2018 and will be distribut-ed to our breeders in June. The breeder survey was conducted to get critical infor-mation on concerning trends in our AKC Registration and litter data for the years 2008 - 2016. 2017 data was not available. Our breeder data will be available for gen-eral membership review after our breeders have reviewed survey data and had an op-

portunity to provide confidential feed-back.

Our 2019 ballots for judges for the Nation-al and Regional Specialty have been count-ed by a group of five PCA members at the Kentuckiana Cluster shows in March 2018. Barbara Pessina has accepted the assign-ment to judge our 2019 National Show. Dr. Eric Liebes has accepted the assign-ment to judge our 2019 Regional Specialty. Maggie Witwer and Jim Moen have gra-ciously offered to chair the 2019 events and will have more details to follow.

Members, the 2020 Specialty Judges Nomination and Final Ballot process will begin in early July 2018 . A brief review of the two step process. The first mailing your will receive in July is a nomination postcard that is enclosed with a list of AKC approved judges for the Puli. You will

select two judges from a list of AKC ap-proved judges for the Puli and legibly write these two names on the post card. This postcard requires a stamp and need to be promptly mailed. The returned nomina-tion ballots determine what judges make it to the final ballot process. The judges re-ceiving the most number of nomination votes will be listed on the final ballot. The 2020 Final Judges Ballot will be mailed to you in August. Please promptly return the final ballot and adhere to instructions. The 2020 Final ballot will be counted at the 2018 National Specialty in Springfield, MA. If you have any questions about the process please reach out to me at [email protected].

PCA Board Conference Call Minutes – Apr 17, 2018

MINUTES FROM April Call – were post-

ed today. Please review/revise or approve on Facebook.

BREEDERS LIST – As discussed on the previous call, currently there is no process and the club has no

forms for breeders to apply to be listed. Requirements are not clearly described. It was proposed that

the renewal process be similar to member-ship dues, running from January through December, with a

reminder note to each listed breeder, pro-rating of fee when a breeder joins the list mid-year, etc.

Linore and Nancy G. will work on a new form. The goal is to make it easy both for breeders and club

administrators to welcome qualified Puli breeders to be listed in Puli News and on the PCA website.

JUDGES ED’s BREED MENTORING PROGRAM – Brian has suggested it has been awhile since the list of

Breed Mentors has been updated. Because he has joined the Judge’s Education Com-mittee, he will

discuss this with the committee and give us an update on a future Board call.

2018 NATIONAL UPDATE – Ann re-ports Patty is concerned about having enough entries to justify holding

a herding event at this year’s National. Both volunteers and costs are concerns. Jim pointed out that

any profits from fund-raising Agility Trials are first earmarked to help cover costs of performance events

at Nationals. Nancy K said the real issue is getting enough volunteers to make the event work. It was

pointed out the Puli is a herding breed and we should always try to feature herding at our Nationals,

though that is not always possible. We will continue to track this.

AKC STATISTICS FOR PULI BREED – Paula reported on the breeder survey re-sults. Two-thirds of

respondents are unable to meet the de-mand for Puli puppies. They mostly will sell puppies to people

who have had a Puli before. Breeder costs

are rising (for example, cost of health tests). She will submit

a short article for Puli News. A common theme is that breeders look both to the club and AKC for more

support. During discussion, it was suggest-ed we consider a Breeders Forum (open to all) at the National,

encouraging breeders to share issues and possible solutions. Maggie also promised she’ll send us a 2

page writeup on the Vizla club’s Breed Sustainability Committee that she learned about at the recent

AKC Delegates conference.

NEW MEMBERS INFORMATION PACKET – Helen is researching what can and should be sent to new club

members. We want not only to welcome them, but give them information about the Puli and about

how to learn more. She hopes to get this effort into place before the National.

CONSOLIDATED RECORD OF MO-TIONS PASSED – Historian Patty Anspach has requested the club

assemble a list of all motions passed. This has been done before, but previous Boards have not

maintained it. Motions are printed in Puli News, but Patty points out how difficult it is to search all of

them to find motions on a given topic. It was suggested we start a process to main-tain such a list for all

new motions, then spawn a separate pro-ject to deal with documenting old motions in one place. The

Board will develop plans on the next Board call.

2018 NATIONAL – HERDING UPDATE (Ann). Patty needs a rough count of how many Pulik would enter

Herding event. Request will be in March Puli News. Will decide next month.

DOG JUDGES EDUCATIONAL INSTI-

TUTE (Jim). Regarding possible contribu-tion this year, the Consensus

was PCA will not donate this time, but hopes to donate in those years the Puli breed will be covered.

Ask Brian to communicate this to Dr. Pen-ta.

ENCOURAGING DUES RENEWAL (Jim). Linore reported 16 members have not yet renewed. At least 2

cannot be reached by email. After discus-sion, the Board will attempt to personally contact those

members to encourage renewal. Jim will post of suggested people for each Board member to call.

BREEDERS LIST (Linore). Issue: Should we develop a process (including verifica-tion about

testing/following guidelines) and forms for breeders who want to be on our Breeders List? Currently the

process is not documented. Linore suggests the form should describe requirements, have a place to

identify breeding stock (name, registration number) which would allow us to check OFA tests, and have

them submit form, but not pay fee until “approved.” Linore also suggests the pro-cess should include

Breeder Listing renewal reminders similar to membership renewals. Linore and Kathy will draft a

process statement and forms.

VOTING FOR JUDGES AT 2019 NA-TIONAL (Paula). At the Kentuckiana Clus-ter, five PCA club members


counted the 2019 final ballots. Results, in order of votes: Barbe Pessina, Eric Liebes, Linda More,

William Shelton, Pat Trotter. Maggie is sending Paula the exact dates, then Paula will begin contacting

the judges in order of votes for the National and the Regional. Paula plans to send out 2020 ballots in

June, so ballots can be counted at the 2018 National.

SURVEY SENT TO PULI BREEDERS (Paula). Paula reported she got 7 surveys back and will report results

on the next conference call.

RECORD OF MOTIONS PASSED. Histo-rian Patty Anspach is seeking a list of ap-proved motions. This will

be discussed more on next conference call.

PUBLIC EDUCATION COMMITTEE (Jim). Should this committee’s functions be merged into the Members

Education Committee? The Public Educa-tion Chair position has been open for a long time. After

discussion, it was clear this committee’s function is different from Members Ed – Meet the Breeds is a

key function. No one has found guidelines for this committee. Jim will try to find. Nancy K. suggested

we brainstorm names on our Facebook group, then contact people directly. Add this to future Board

Meeting agenda.

NEW MEMBER PACKETS (Helen). Helen suggested the club send new members a Welcome Packet with

information about the Puli and the club. She had seen some information given to new members

attending National Specialties but thought we should regularly send such information to all new

members. Helen and Nancy G. will develop a more specific proposal for us to review.

REPORT FROM AKC DELEGATES MEETING (Maggie). At the conference, AKC Delegates meeting report

(Maggie). Maggie attended a meeting orga-nized by the Vizla Club of American about their new Breed

Sustainability Committee. She will send us information she got at the meeting. At the regular

conference, AKC recommended Breed clubs monitor their breed page in the AKC

Store. AKC also

discussed a bill in Congress that would up-date dog import regulations, which have not been updated

since 1956. Thousands of dogs per year are currently being imported without any health inspections.

Last year, the canine Flu source was traced to a dog imported from South Korea.

COMMITTEES/BOARD LIAISON PRO-GRAM (Nancy G). Nancy asked Board members to post info and

updates to our Facebook group. We plan to review how this program is working on next month’s

conference call.

NEW MEMBER IDEA. Because Richard could not attend, we decided to delay dis-cussion his suggestion

to offer a free 1-year subscription to Online Puli News to new PCA members. But it was suggested we

consider adding this to Helen’s new mem-ber “Welcome Packet” idea.

MINUTES FROM JANUARY MEETING - They are being reformatted and will be posted on our Facebook

LIAISON DISCUSSION UPDATE

- Jim works on the Web Page Com-mittee headed by Valarie Cheimis, so he will be the liaison.

- Val is also PCA’s Media Coordinator and Brian is her liaison for that func-tion.

- Rescue Trust and Rescue Trust Treas-urer are being removed from the PCA Committees list, since

Rescue is a separate legal entity.

- Brian has joined the Judges Educa-tion Committee, so he is the natural Board liaison.

- Membership: Linore is currently Board liaison.

- Herding/Herding Stats: Ann Bowley is liaison to Patty Anspach. Ann men-tioned Patty is planning

Herding for this year’s National, with info to be published in Puli News. We need entries paid in advance

and a count of participants. The cost will be lower than in recent years.

HANDLING OF MEMBERSHIP RENEW-ALS – Linore suggests we send a per-sonalized email to members

who have not renewed. Others sug-gested phone calls in mid to late March. Richard Tannen suggested

sending postcards. We will discuss more on Facebook and decide at next

DOG JUDGES INSTITUTE--Brian has been in contact with Dr. Gerald Penta. The event depends on breed

club donations. The institute rents fa-cilities, sets up show tents and rings, offers lunches, and judges pay

to attend. Breed clubs donate mem-bers’ time as well as making dogs available for the seminars and

hands on education. Funding donation levels are $50-99.00/$100-250-/$250-499-/and $500-plus Brian is

going to ask when and where next event is. After learning this, the Board will decide whether PCA will

make a donation this year.

CRITICAL ISSUES----The AKC Puli regis-tration numbers---if no puppies are available from PCA breeders,

buyers are forced to look elsewhere. Many do not want to wait a long time and search the web,

Facebook, etc. So the relatively small number of approved Puli breeders in the US and the difficulty of

finding Puli puppies is a major prob-lem. This and previous Boards believe part of the solution is to

encourage Puli owners to join PCA and

help them learn more about the breed, in hopes some will decide

to become responsible breeders them-selves.

Richard Tannen talked about ways to increase membership. The idea evolved to look into giving those

on the PCA Breeders List the ability to give first-time Puli owners a free one-year subscription to Puli

News. The Board will discuss this more on the Facebook group and possibly develop a motion on how to

proceed.

PROPOSAL FROM DAGMAR FERTL FOR AGILITY TRIAL IN TEXAS – Jim reported Dagmar’s proposal

includes working with a local agility Superintendent, who will manage the trial. The trial would be held

in Spring, Texas, north of Houston. PCA will receive $2,000. Dagmar has al-ready lined up 5 PCA

members to be the Trial Committee. Jim pointed out the dates for this trial are the same as the 2019

California Agility trial, also done for fundraising. Cathy Pronzini is working with AKC Event Operations to

make sure this complies with AKC

rules.

MOTION: Linore Cleveland: I move that we approve PCA sponsoring the 2019 Texas agility trial

proposal forwarded from Dagmar Fertl. Motion seconded by Brian Bru-baker. Motion carried

unanimously.

MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS – Linore reviewed the open applications, which had been posted on the

Board’s Facebook group. One applica-tion is on hold, since no sponsor was listed. Linore will follow up.

MOTION: Linore Cleveland: I move that we: 1) approve the Household membership application, adding

Ross Allen, Kathy Allen’s husband; 2) approve the Household membership application adding Ian Schuh,

Julie Schuh’s son; 3) approve the new Household membership application from Jeff Lai and Joe Spillman.

Motion seconded by Richard Tannen. Motion carried unanimously.

Essential Oils and Your Dog’s Wellness

I have asked Jenn Latusek-Nabholz who is a biologist and a purveyor of essential oils to share information on how essential oils can benefit your dog. This article specifically applies to dogs; while oils can be used with cats, birds, rabbits and other small animals, there are other safety precautions. Cats are especially sensitive to a variety of oils, so employ extra care when using oils in a household with cats and other small pets.

By now, most if not all of you have heard about essential oils. These aromatic compounds are extracted from various parts of plants including (but not limited to) flowers, roots, stem, bark, resin, and seeds. Essential oils have been used for various medicinal, spiritual/religious, culinary, and perfume/beauty purposes for thousands of years.

Essential oils can complement traditional veterinary medicine, as a part of your dog’s wellness plan. For both you and your dog, you should select only therapeutic grade oils, since these are of a superior quality and purity, and therefore are deemed safe and effective to breathe in; put on the skin; and if certified, even safe to ingest. Inexpensive oils may be found, however, you have no guarantee as to the quality of the oils. If not responsibly sourced, you could be getting oils contaminated with pesticides. Furthermore, if you select essential oils that are sourced only from their native habitats around the world, then you are using products that are of the high-est therapeutic quality. Location, climate, and environment determine the composition of the plant and the superior products are collected from farmers who have traditionally grown plants native to their country for many years.

Single oils or oil blends (two or more essential oils together) may be used on your dog. When introducing es-sential oils to your dogs use caution and consider ways to keep your animals safe. Allow your pet to participate in the selection of essential oils you are considering (like people, there might be individual preferences or dis-likes). You can have your dog sniff the closed bottles to see if they exhibit an aversion to a particular one.

Consider the following single oils or oil blends that are popular selections of essential oils to use for your dog:

Cedarwood – calms nervous system; expectorant for coughs; supports clear skin and hair; useful in homemade pest and flea repellents.

Clary Sage – naturally repels mosquitoes; possesses uplifting and mood balancing properties.

Eucalyptus – possesses purifying properties that can be beneficial for skin and for cleansing surfaces and air. Some seasoned dog owners use eucalyptus as a flea repellent.

Frankincense – supports cellular health and the nervous system; diffuse to promote peaceful environment and overall wellness. Some seasoned dog owners use frankincense for a variety of skin conditions.

Helichrysum – stimulates healing and supports liver, digestive process, and immune function.

Geranium – naturally repels insects.

Lavender – soothes skin; promotes calm and relaxation, including restful sleep.

Lemon – cleanses and uplifts; diffuse with cleansing blend to get rid of odors and freshen the air.

Peppermint – naturally repels bugs; provides refreshing scent.

Vetiver – calms emotions and promotes restful sleep.

Wild orange – cleanses and purifies; uplifts mood and energy levels,

Cleansing Blend - eliminates unpleasant odors and freshens the air; soothes bug bite irritations.


Digestive Blend - aids in digestion; soothe upset stomach from conditions like motion sickness, indigestion, bloating, and gas.

Focus Blend – supports nervous system and emotions; use to promote focus and clarity during training or in so-cial settings such as when visiting dog parks, using doggie day cares or play programs, boarding dogs, or attend-ing competitions.

Grounding Blend – encourages emotional balance; diffuse to help relieve anxiousness.

Massage Blend – soothes muscles and joints and promotes healthy circulation.

Protective Blend – promotes healthy immune function; combine with water and white vinegar to use as non-toxic surface cleaner. Some seasoned dog owners regularly use protective blend to clean around puppies.

Respiratory Blend – supports respiratory system; diffuse or dilute and apply to neck, back or ears to calm senses and promote sleep.

The aromatic application of essential oils can be accomplished by (1) using a diffuser (ultrasonic is generally preferred); (2) spraying a combination of oil and water mist into the air or on pet bedding; (3) letting your dog smell oils on your hands; or (4) or placing a few drops of oil onto your air filter. When diffusing oils with dogs in the home: (1) always leave a door open to the room where you are using the diffuser (so your pet can exit if they either do not want to be exposed to the aroma or in the unlikely event that they would have an adverse reac-tion); and (2) monitor your dog for any discomfort or distress (e.g., drooling, increased breathing rate, panting, salivating, squinting, or other unusual activity). If you notice these changes, take the following steps: (1) Turn off the diffuser; (2) air out the room by opening windows; (3) discontinue use of diffused oil; and (4) move your dog to another room.

The topical application of essential oils can be useful for therapeutic massage and to address skin irritations. Topical use facilitates the oils to pass through the skin for an immediate response. When topically using oils, always dilute essential oils with carrier oil (e.g., fractionated coconut, almond, or hazelnut oils). Avoid eyes, nose, and genital and anal areas when applying topically.

Below are some common do-it-yourself recipes that are usually of greatest interest to the dog owner.

Spray for Bugs

4 drops clary sage

5 drops Cleansing Blend

8 drops peppermint

4 drops lemon

2 drops geranium

2 drops eucalyptus

8 oz purified water

Directions: Combine in a dark glass spray bottle and be sure to swirl the bottle before each use.

Smell Good Dog/Home Spray

8 drops Cleansing Blend

2 drops lavender, peppermint, or wild orange

8 oz purified water

Directions: Combine in a dark glass spray bottle and be sure to swirl the bottle before each use.


Relax Diffuser Blend

1 drop lavender

1 drop cedarwood

1 drop vetiver

1 drop frankincense

Directions: Follow those provided by the manufacturer of your diffuser.

We thank instructor Deva Wilson for making us look smart on the courses, as well as the entire Dog Gone Fun Agility family for their friendship and providing such a great facility (don’t hate us, but we get to train in a climate-controlled facility on soccer turf). “Snitch” loves getting her sports massages from Maxie Fos-ter, and chiropractor Dr. Jackie Doval keeps her well-adjusted.

George’s passion for agility continues.

His enthusiasm is also his biggest enemy as he will lose a clean run because he is barking so much he hits a jump or refuses to enter a tunnel.

I never know which dog I will have with me as we enter the ring – it could be the dog who can place and win the class or the over the top, barking comedian who will crash and burn. Whichever dog I have, I love running with this dog and know that now he has turned 12 moving to the Preferred class is on the hori-zon.

I am so proud of his achievements – both in the con-formation and agility rings and I am honored that once again he is in the Top 10 for 2017.

2017 Puli Agility Highlights

This article presents some Puli Agility highlights, milestones and statistics on the state of the Puli in Agility during 2017. In 2017 the number of Pulik that earned a qualifying score in agility was 18. This number is a drop from the 25 Pulik that competed in 2016. I hope that this trend can be reversed in 2018 with more Pulik and their owners giving Agility a try.

Please Note: Most Puli names listed below are WITHOUT their titles, since titles change quickly and I don’t want anyone to be unhappy because of out-of-date titles. There are some titles ‘as of’ 12/31/2017 and again these may not reflect current achievements.

Puli Club of America National Specialty Agility Trial 2017

There was a one day Agility Trial at the National Specialty in 2017. The trial was held Thursday October 12, 2017 at the Never Go Back Ranch in Watertown, TN.

The trial was open to all breeds. There were 12 Pulik entered in the trial, a really good entry.

The High Scoring Puli was Loakespark Too Hot to Handle, handled by Alexandra Davis. ‘George’ was the top Puli qualifier in the Standard classes.

New MACH Titles (Master Agility Championship) in 2017

In 2017 a MACH4 title was earned by Joe Lapine and CH MACH4 Proskai Nutn Bt Bliss 4 Mardi Gras PT MXC2 MJC2 XF

Each MACH title takes a total of 20 Double Qs (qualifying in Standard and JWW classes on the same day) and 750 speed points (seconds under course time) from the Masters Classes.

New PACH Titles (Preferred Agility Championship) in 2017

In 2017 a PACH title was earned by Dagmar Fertl and CH PACH Piroskai Quidditch RN MXP6 MXPS MJP6 MJPS PAX RATN CGC IT VP

The requirements for the PACH title are 20 Double Qs and 750 speed points from the Masters Preferred classes. The Preferred Classes jump 4” lower and are allowed an extra 5 seconds per run to complete the course.

Fast Pulik


Each year I calculate the Fastest Agility Runs by a Puli based on the information that I get from the AKC. Looking at the 2017 results, we see several repeat performers and a couple of new fast Pulik.

Jumpers with Weaves (JWW) classes are made up of jumps (single bar and spread), tunnels (open and col-lapsed) and weave poles. The Yards per Second requirement for JWW runs is much higher than the Standard agility classes since there are no contact obstacles in the course. I calculated Yards per Second by dividing the number of yards in the course by the dog’s time.

The top 10 JWW (Jumpers with Weaves) Runs for 2017:

Standard Agility classes are comprised of the same selection of obstacles as in JWW, with the addition of three con-tact obstacles (Teeter-totter, elevated Dog Walk, A-Frame), plus a table. The dog must touch the ‘contact’ zone (last few feet of each ‘contact obstacle’). Missing the ‘contact’ zone results in a non-qualifying score, at all levels of agility. The table is also a required obstacle, where the dog must stay for 5 seconds. The judge calculates the Standard Course Time based on the course length and required YPS then adds 5 seconds for the time that is spent on the Table. I calcu-lated Yards per Second by dividing the number of yards in the course by the dog’s time less the 5 seconds for the table.

AKC Agility Masters Ranking System

The AKC maintains a Ranking System for Agility dogs that are competing in the Masters level classes. This system is based on the accumulation of Double Qs (Qualifying in Standard and JWW classes on the same day) and speed points (the number of seconds under Course Time of the dog’s run). The AKC publishes an annual MACH Ranking based on scores obtained in a given calendar year and then uses these same types of statistics to determine the five invitees to the AKC Agility Invitational held in Orlando Florida.

The AKC has a yearly Invitational Agility Trial in conjunction with the AKC / Royal Canin National conformation dog show in Orlando Florida. A maximum of five dogs from each breed are invited. THE PULI CLUB OF AMERICA'S

GUIDELINES FOR OWNERS/BREEDERS/EXHIBITORS

The Puli Club of America, Inc. in accordance with the objectives of its Constitution, expects its members to use these guidelines in establishing a standard of conduct for themselves as owners, breeders, sellers and exhibitors of Pulik. Every person who owns a Puli has an inherent responsibility to protect our breed. A. A PULI OWNER WILL PROVIDE ALL DOGS WITHIN THEIR KEEPING WITH:

· Appropriate food, water, health care and shelter. · Emotional requirements of attention, affection and appropriate training.

B. A PULI BREEDER WILL: · Be well-informed about the Standard of our breed. · Be aware that the purpose of breeding is to maintain or improve the quality of

the breed in accordance with the standard. · Use all available means such as knowledge of ancestors, and CHIC testing to

determine that breeding stock is free of inheritable disease. PCA required CHIC testing includes:

1. OFA or Penn Hip for hips 2. OFA for patella 3. OFA Degenerative Myelopathy (DNA test) 4. CERF (Canine Eye Registry)/OFA Eye Registry to be updated

every 3 years Additional tests that can be performed but are not required include:

1. OFA for elbows 2. OFA for cardiac 3. OFA for thyroid 4. BAER (hearing) test

· Obtain radiologically normal OFA/Penn Hip evaluation on all breeding stock before breeding.

· Use only stock which is itself sound in body and temperament. · Breed only when in a position to properly care for the bitch and litter,

recognizing that offspring might need housing for a considerable length of time.

· Not breed a bitch at her first season, before the age of 2, nor breed her more than 2 out of 3 consecutive heat periods, taking the health of the bitch into consideration at all times.

· Enter into all breeding arrangements with written contracts. · Keep accurate and thorough breeding records in full accordance with AKC

requirements. · Prevent all breedings that are not carefully planned and provide adequate

kenneling to prevent accidental or unplanned matings. · Insist that a visiting bitch be in the stud owner’s care and/or supervision

before, through and until completion of estrus, so that accidental mating to another stud not occur.

· Not substitute one stud for another without the knowledge and agreement of all parties.

· Pay careful attention to physical and emotional needs of puppies produced.

· Keep all puppies in the litter until they are a minimum of eight (8) weeks of age.

· Be aware at all times that producing puppies is a commitment and they remain responsible for puppies they produce throughout the lifetime of those dogs.

· Breeders are required to provide assistance to dogs of their breeding in need of re-homing, including taking the dogs back and fostering them until they can relocate them to a new home.

C: PERSON SELLING A PULI WILL:

· Maintain a reasonable price within one’s locale, which price should also be compatible with national prices.

· Intelligently and honestly classify stock as show prospect, breeding prospect or pet.

· Provide AKC papers with limited registration if the dog is a potential detriment to the breed.

· Ascertain that the prospective owner has the knowledge, ability and facilities to properly care for a Puli.

· Give the buyer an honest appraisal of coat management, physical, mental and nutritional needs peculiar to the breed.

· Provide a pedigree of at least 3 generations, typed or written legibly. · Supply records to the buyer regarding immunization, feeding and instructions

for future care. · Release only puppies which are in good health and guarantee the health of the

puppy for a reasonable length of time. · Only release puppies after 8 weeks of age which is in keeping with most

animal welfare laws. · Provide written contractual proof of sale and guarantees. If registration

papers are not yet available, a bill of sale, giving names and registration numbers of sire and dam and date of birth are required.

· Avoid false and misleading advertising, including internet and websites. · Not sell or provide stock to pet shops or commercial kennels. · Not donate dogs, puppies or adults, for contests, raffles, or fund raising

events. D. A PERSON SHOWING A PULI WILL:

· Show and encourage the showing of high quality stock. · Exhibit only the most creditable ring deportment and accept the services of

only those professional handlers whose behavior is exemplary. · Help the novice exhibitor and breeder. Use kind, constructive and honest

criticism. · Display good sportsmanship and conduct themselves, whether at home,

traveling, at shows, or in hotels, in such a manner as to reflect credit upon the Puli Club of America, themselves and the Puli as a breed.

· Exhibit dogs that are clean, in good physical condition and under control.

**PCA ROOM RESPONSIBILITY POLICY**

PCA has adopted the following rules in order to insure that the members and their dogs will be welcome at hotels in the future. Any individual attending a PCA Sanctioned Event and staying in a hotel, motel, inn or campsite/fairground has the responsibility of leaving that room or campsite exactly as found. This includes picking up after dogs on the grounds. Anyone who damages a room or campsite/fairgrounds and does not report the damage to the hotel/ campsite/fairground man-agement and make immediate restitution or arrangements to do so within a period of time agreed upon by the management, will be subject to any or all the following actions by the PCA Board of Directors. 1. May be banned from showing at the next PCA sanctioned event[s]. 2. May be subject to AKC sanctions. 3. Membership in PCA may be terminated and may not be allowed to be reinstated. DAMAGES SHALL BE DEFINED AS : 1. Flea infestation, urine, defecation and/or any damage to hotel/ campsite/fairground property [walls, bedspreads, carpets, drapes, etc.]. 2. Any verified complaint by the host hotel/campsite/fairground 3. Any verified complaint by a PCA member. PCA ROOM REGULATIONS : 1. All dogs must be crated and quiet when left alone in a room. Noisy dogs shall be quieted upon request, even if this means the owner/handler must stay in the room with the dog. 2. Individuals will be expected to immediately report any damage by dogs or themselves to the hotel/campsite/fairground management and to assume complete financial responsibil-ity for those damages. 3. No bathing or grooming will be allowed in rooms. A grooming room will be available whenever possible. 4. Dogs are to be allowed on furniture ONLY if the furniture is covered with protective covering provided by the owner/handler. 5. All owner/handlers will take preventative measures to assure that their dogs are free of fleas, mites, intestinal parasites and other communicable diseases prior to arriving at the hotel/campsite.

BY SIGNING THE ENTRY FORM, COMPLIANCE WITH THIS POLICY SHALL BE INSURED. ALL INDIVIDUALS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLY.

LITTER LISTINGS

Breeder Litter listings are accepted from Puli Club of America members in good standing. Litter listings here will also be listed on PCA's web site at www.Puliclub.org/pcabreeders.htm. “In order for a Litter to be listed on the Breeders page in Puli News and Puliclub.org, a breeder must be a general member of PCA in good standing. They must also pay whatever the current fee is for the listing. Proof of the required CHIC health tests for hips, patellas, DM and CERF/OFA Eye Reg-istry for sire and dam must be provided. CERF/OFA Eye Registry testing on sire and dam must have occurred within the last 3 years”

Zeal to produce champions or perpetuate a bloodline must never compromise a breeder's sensitivity to the quality of life that every Puli bred will experience. Breeders must consider the welfare of the Puli above personal gain or profit. Breeders have the responsibility to insure the welfare of all puppies they produce and remain responsible for those Pulik throughout their entire lifetime. Should the situation arise, breeders are required to provide assistance to dogs of their breeding in need of re-homing, including taking the dogs back and fostering them until they can relocate them to a new home.

This wording has been added to insure that breeder's own the ultimate responsibility for the dogs they produce throughout their lifetime. The Puli Club of America Rescue Trust is not responsible for placing dogs bred by known people in the breed, and the Board felt that clear lines need to be established to advise everyone of their responsibility in the future. Should Rescue be advised of a Puli in need of re-homing their first obligation is to try to determine who the breeder is, and then contact that person in order that they can make the necessary

arrangements for their dog.
