Project overviewAuckland Transport and the NZ Transport Agency are building a fully-integrated bus and train station at Pukekohe. The new Pukekohe Station will facilitate increased public transport by providing better and faster connections between buses and rail within the Franklin community and wider South Auckland region.

Construction updates

Over the past two months, we can reflect on good progress against the project timeline:

• Piling works for overbridge tendered and awarded, with building consents obtained.

• Piling works have now been fully completed at the site for the new pedestrian overbridge, which will connect Station Road to Custom Street.

• Rail corridor piles were successfully installed during the Christmas break.

• Electronic passenger information screen, passenger info board and tag on/off machine relocated on the platform in preparation for future construction works.

Please note that the platform access ramp has been reconfigured to accommodate future construction works.

Welcome to the third project update newsletter on the construction of the new Pukekohe Station – a project delivering on the transport aspirations of South Aucklanders.

Pukekohe Station

Piling works

The successful completion of piling works at the site represents an important milestone for the project. This involved the installation of six large piles (the deepest being 40m) during December and January, including piling in the rail corridor over Christmas.

The parking lot on Station Road was temporarily closed for two weeks from 15-30 January to deliver one of the piles and has now been reopened.

Tender issued for main construction works

Following the completion of the piling works, we have now issued the tender documents for the main construction works. The contract for the main works will cover the remainder of the project and include the park and ride facility, bus shelter, pedestrian overbridge, rain gardens, and new public toilet.

Social and economic procurement is a key element within the tender process for Pukekohe Station. To ensure that we leverage the best socio-economic outcomes for South Aucklanders through this project, we will require our contractor to work with The Southern Initiative (TSI) to employ local people where possible.

TSI is already working with Auckland Transport on a number of initiatives, including the Manukau Bus Station project.

A temporary road was placed over the rail tracks to allow the contractor’s crane and piling rig to cross onto the platform

The crane is lifting in a 27m permanent casing. This was eased into the ground using a specialised vibrating machine.
