PUJYA GURUDEV A VISIONARY HAILS PRIME MINISTER

Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda was a “Gnana-margi” and “Karma

Margi”, hailed The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi and praised him as

a visionary. Prime Minister Modi released a commemorative coin to mark

the birth centenary of Swami Chinmayananda in New Delhi on May 8,

2015.

Speaking on the occasion, the Prime Minister recalled the pioneering work

of Swami Chinmayananda in the field of education and social reform. He

described Swami Chinmayananda as a visionary, who saw the need to in-

culcate India’s great culture and spiritual traditions, through the English

medium, among an “elite” class of people, who had moved away from this

heritage.

Speaking about Swami Chinmayananda, the Prime Minister said that when

Swami ji talked about the Geeta, he was a Gyan-Margi (one who follows the

path of knowledge), and when he worked in his schools and hospitals, he

was a Karm-Margi (one who follows the path of work). He said, that in this

sense, Swami Chinmayananda’s life is an inspiration for others.

The Prime Minister recalled his meetings with Swami Chinmayananda, and said it was a matter of great pride that a

commemorative coin was being issued to mark his centenary. Union Minister for Finance Shri Arun Jaitley, Union

MoS for Finance Shri Jayant Sinha, Global Head of Chinmaya Mission Swami Tejomayananda, and National Director of

Chinmaya Yuva Kendra Swami Mitrananda, were present on the occasion.” . As the speech was delivered in Hindi, we

BalaVihar Graduation Day

On May 17 the Columbus Chinmaya Mission Bala Vihar held its an-

nual graduation ceremony at the Chinmaya Archana Center. This

year, it is a special event for our graduating seniors – Pavi Kannan

and Keertana Rao.

Swami Sharanananda, the resident Acharya of Chinmaya Mission

Chicago, blessed the graduating seniors with his special graduation

address.

The two students were presented with graduation certificates. This

year’s celebration was all about Gurudev. All our enthusiastic stu-

dents dressed up and came ready to enact, chant and narrate the

stories, values and quotes about Gurudev.

The event was emceed by two of our students Teja Parasa and

Nishant Pradhan .

CHYK West has an exciting new initiative for all Bala Vihar students across the country to participate in called P.O. Box Gurudev!

P.O. Box Gurudev is a text box on www.chykwest.com<http://www.chykwest.com> where Bala Vihar students can ask a short question to "Gurudev" and get an actual Acharya response including a recommended Chinmaya Publication book for further inquiry. Service Trip to CORD center in Sidhbari, Himachal Pradesh, India

The first Devi Group, or Chinmaya Study Group exclusively for women, was inaugu-rated in November 1958, in Chennai, India, with Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda's blessings: "Salutations to Mothers! I need not mention how happy I am that a Devi sec-tion of Chinmaya Mission is being inaugurat-ed on this sacred day. Women of the country mould its future. The caliber of the children will be determined by the upbringing given by their mothers. Indeed, women have been, and even today are, the real custodians of our country's spiritual culture." These en-couraging words lay the foundation of Chin-maya Mission's Devi Group culture, and these Devi Groups are today an integral fea-ture of almost every Mission center across the world.

Advanced Vedanta Class Summary:

In Chapter III of Bhagawad Geeta, Karma Yoga, Lord Shri Krishna explains to a confused Arjuna that though knowledge may seen superior to action, it is impera-tive that both be practiced. Step by step, Lord Shri Krishna shows how the path of action is a means to the end and what happens to those who do not act. Action when practiced without attachment to its result, purifies the mind and inte-grates the personality. This makes the mind receptive to receive the knowledge that leads to Self-realization .

Temple Timings: All days - 7.00 PM - 8.00 PM.

Special abhisheka will be performed on the third Saturday (10.00 AM - 12.00 noon) of every month.

Balavihar and Adult Study Groups

Chinmaya Mission Columbus Balavihaar Students Teja Parasa, Nishant Pradhan, Meghana Menta and Ritvik Maryala will be making a Service Trip to Chinmaya Organization for Rural Development (CORD) center in Sidhbari, Himachal Pradesh, India.

They will be spending two weeks in July at the Sidhbari Center vol-unteering in various departments. The Chidren will be accompanied by their parents, Chandrashekhar Parasa, Milind Pradhan, Bindu Menta and Satish Maryala.

Everyone is excited about this trip and also the opportunity to visit Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda's Samadhi in Sidhbari. In our next issue we will ask the children about their thoughts this upcom-ing service visit.

Chinmaya Balavihar Program Highlights:
