  • Rio de la Plata The Rio de la Plata is the longest running river in Puerto Rico. The mouth of the river drains into the Atlantic Ocean, just west of San Juan.

    Condado Lagoon The Condado Lagoon is located in San Juan with a maximum depth of 36 feet.

    Cerro Punta Mountain Cerro Punta Mountain is the tallest rising mountain in Puerto Rico. The mountain stands approximately 4,400 feet tall and is home to lush vegetation and many waterfalls.

    Dos Bocas Lake Dos Bocas Lake is one of the few lakes in Puerto Rico. This lake also serves as one of the most portable water reservoirs

  • Bioluminescent Bays

    There are 3 bioluminescent bays in Puerto Rico (one in Fajardo, Vieques, and Lajas). The strange water luminescence in these bays are formed by a type of oceanic plankton which generates emerald green and ultramarine illumination when water is disturbed. These bays in Puerto Rico are some of the most popular tourist attractions, as tours for kayaking in these bays are now available.

  • Tropical Rainforest

    Puerto Ricos biome is a tropical rainforest. The El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico is the most prominent tropical rainforest feature in the country. This forest is 24,000 acres big and is home to several bird and frog species. El Yunque Mountain is another main land feature in Puerto Rico, standing 3,500 feet tall.

    San Juan is the capital of Puerto Rico, located at 18.4500 N and 66.0667W. San Juan is the largest city on the island of Puerto Rico and sits on the Atlantic Coast.

  • Roman Catholic is the main religion in Puerto Rico. Roman Catholics believe the truth is found in the Bible. They believe forgiveness is found in the ritual of church with the

    assistance of a priest in confession. Roman Catholics believe the place of punishment is Hell.

  • Sports in Puerto Rico

    Puerto Ricos most popular sports consist of baseball, boxing, basketball, and horseback riding.

  • Baseball Baseball is the premier sport on the island of Puerto Rico, establishing its own baseball league. Three Puerto Rican baseball players also take place in the baseball hall of fame.

    Boxing Boxing is considered one of the main sports in Puerto Rico aside from baseball. Wilfred Gomez Rivera is a Puerto Rican boxer that is noted to be one of the best boxers of all time

    Basketball Puerto Rico has its very own Mens Basketball Team that represents the country in sporting events such as the Olympics and the Americas championship.

    Horse Back Riding Horseback riding is a leisure sport in Puerto Rico. Horseback riding has become popular on the island as riding on the beach and viewing scenic views is a popular tourist attraction.

  • Drinks The national drink of Puerto Rico is Pina Colada. Pina Colada is made with rum, coconut cream, and pineapple juice. Puerto Ricans are also known for drinking coffee, beer, and rum. Puerto Rico is the leading rum producer in the world and 80% of rum consumed in the United States is from the island.

    Food Meals in Puerto Rico usually consist of chicken, fish, shellfish, and vegetables. Puerto Ricans also enjoy egg dishes.

  • Puerto Rico is a republican democratic form of government that is under the jurisdiction and sovereignty of the United States. The 3 main political parties are the Partido Nueve

    Progresista, The Partido Popular Domcratico, and The Partido Indeprendentista Puertorriqueno.

  • Puerto Rico typically falls under the Tertiary economic sector level, as tourism brings in a large amount of the GDP. Finance is the other largest source of money in Puerto Rico as it makes up for 46% of the GDP ($101.5 billion) However, in the primary economic sector level, Puerto Rico has a large industry of agriculture and mining ass well as a little bit of fishery.

  • The agriculture of Puerto Rico is specialized and commercial, devoted primarily to crops which can be sold in the United States. Crops such as sugar cane, tobacco, and citrus fruits are the main crops produced in Puerto Rico. Important food plants, such as rice, mangos, avocados, maize, coffee, and green cover crops have been introduced in to the Island. In recent years, soil conservation practices have been introduced as a measure in solving the Island's agricultural and population problems. In order to increase the production of milk and its consumption by the poorer classes, goat raising has been encouraged, particularly in the drier areas.
