Principal’s Message:

Welcome back to Term 3. The term is once again busy with some wonderful educational adventures taking place at

Truscott Street. Students in Year 4 are looking forward to camp and we have the first of our school discos coming

up later in the term. Rehearsals are continuing for our Ryde Schools Spectacular dance and choir performances.

Teachers have been hard at working planning teaching programs to engage every child on their learning journey

this term and beyond.

Notice board:

I have recently published our school’s Strategic Directions for 2018-2020 on the main office notice board which I

would like to share with the school community. These Strategic

Directions provide three areas our school will focus in our teaching and

learning during this current cycle. Each month a class or stage group

will create a visual display about learning that has taken place.

This month Mrs Shannon’s class KS created some wonderful art

monsters and wrote great explanations about their artwork.

Well done KS.

Rufus wrote... My monster has fur all over its back. My monster smells like rotten eggs.

My monster sounds like this ROOOOOOOOOOAR! My monster feels bump.

Piper wrote... My monster looks scary. My monster sounds like a tiger’s roar and has

stinky, rotten teeth. My monster smells like he has bits of rotten food in his mouth.

Peleg wrote… My monster has fur all on him. My monster sounds like this

rooooooooooar! My monster smells like rotten food.

Zara wrote... My monster looks like a fluffy cloud. My monster sounds like a horrible

beast. My monster smells like garbage. My monster feels like a cloud and you cannot touch it.

Arianna wrote... My monster smells and it looks like a cute monster. It feels spikey and

my monster sounds like a roar! Don’t touch.

Next week the notice board will have some great work from Stage 2 students in 3/4B, 3/4K and 3/4 F around their

STEM project. The following project will be from class 2W who have been working on different ways to learn about

Time in their Mathematics lessons.

Community Project Grant for Possum Cove

(Support Unit Outdoor Learning Area) –

Ryde Electorate Constituents – We need your vote! Truscott Street Public School Support Unit needs your help. We have submitted a request for funding

through the Ryde Electorate Community Grant Project to give Possum Cove, our outdoor learning area

for the Support Unit students, a make over. Students from the wider school community also use this area

particularly the OOSH team.

We are thrilled to announce that we made it through the first round and now it’s up to the Ryde

Electorate community as to who will get the grant. The project with the most votes will win the

funding. Possum Cove is up against some strong competition and we need your vote!

Many of the Support Unit families do not live in the Ryde Electorate and hence are ineligible to vote. On

behalf of the students in the Support Unit we ask the wider school community for your help by voting for

Possum Cove. If you live in the Ryde Electorate all eligible voters in your household can lodge a vote for

Possum Cove. Details on how to do this are below. It takes only couple of minutes but the deadline for

voting is the 15th Aug.

So rally the household, convince the neighbours and encourage friends and family to help us win the

funding!!

Click this link and Log into your Service NSW account and select “Possum Cove” - Ryde as your first

preference at

https://mycommunityproject.service.nsw.gov.au/

How do I vote for projects in my area?

You’ll be able to vote online or at your nearest Service NSW Centre.

To vote, you'll need:

Login or create a MyServiceNSW Account

If you do not have an account, sign up on the Service NSW website, call 13 77 88 or visit a Service NSW

centre

Provide your Medicare card to verify your name and age.

Provide your NSW residential address to identify your electorate

You'll need to pick between three and five projects in your electorate, arrange them in order of your

preference, then submit your vote.

Each person can vote only once.

Voting across NSW will close on 15 August 2019.

Thank you.

Library News Term 3 is a very busy time in our library!

Our library lunchtime sessions are changing this term, with the following opportunities provided to all

students:

Monday – Craft and Construction

Tuesday – Reading and Writing

Wednesday – Games Galore

Thursday – Quiet Space

If you have any unwanted, good quality indoor games, craft equipment, Lego or Duplo, we would

appreciate any donations to the library to be used during these times.

Education Week Open Day Monday 5 August

A book display will be held in the library from 9.00-12.00 for purchase of books to be donated to our

library. Books will be $5, $10 & $15. Donations are tax deductible. A donation certificate with your

child’s name will be permanently attached to the book which can then be borrowed during their next

library lesson.

Book Week 19 August to 23 August

We have an exciting week planned to celebrate Book Week.

On Monday 19 August we have Andrew Daddo visiting the school to speak to the students about his

experiences as an author. Over the next few weeks, students will be reading a variety of his books during

library lessons.

Our Book Week Parade at Truscott Street will be held on Wednesday 21 August. Students may choose to

dress up as any book character. Costumes need not be expensive as many book character costumes can

be created using everyday clothing. If you are stuck for ideas, just Google ‘Book Week Parade’ in images.

Our parade will start at 9.45am in the hall. After the parade, parents are welcome to take photos.

We would also like to extend an invitation to parents and carers to come and read to our students in the

library on Wednesday 21 August from 9am, before the parade begins. If there are any parents who would

like to read their favourite childhood story from our library, or bring one in from home, please let me

know.

The first of these is on Wednesday 17 July Dealing with academic procrastination in youth presented by Dr Carolyn Schniering: Stress around academic performance is very common during adolescence as pressures at school escalate. Increased stress has been shown to be related to worry and procrastination around school work, and reduced self-esteem around work. This free seminar covers evidence based strategies for overcoming procrastination in youth. The session commences at 6:00 pm at the Australian Hearing Hub, Level 1 lecture Theatre, 16 University Macquarie University. To register use the following link:
