Educational Materials
• Material that educates and informs an audience • Examples: activity books, coloring books,
brochures, posters, flyers, envelope stuffers, bumper stickers, etc.
• Requires prior approval• Must include a GHSO logo and:– This material was developed through a project
funded by the Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office.
Promotional Materials
• Material that promotes, supports, or enhances efforts and directly relate to the project objective
• Examples: key chains, on-board signs, mugs, pencils, magnets, litter bags, etc.
• Requires prior approval• Must include a GHSO logo– Written statement not required
Buy America Act
• All products purchased with federal grant money must be manufactured/assembled in the United States
• Any manufactured add-on to an end product is, itself, an end product and must also be made in the United States (examples: batteries, chargers, printer ink, etc.)
• This applies to everything from paper clips to vehicles and all things in between
• Document, document, document.
New Guidelines
• When promotional items are included in a grant’s activities, a plan outlining the purpose of the items is required:– Activity– Promotional item type– Quantity– Target audience(s)
• How leftover materials will be utilized must also be addressed
• Promotional items cannot be freely distributed to the public without any interaction

– This project funded solely by the Tennessee Governor's Highway Safety Office– These high visibility patrols will be conducted in partnership with the
Tennessee Governor’s Highway Safety Office’s “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign. The Governor’s Highway Safety Office is providing grant overtime funding for Johnson City officers to conduct these DUI enforcement patrols aimed at removing impaired drivers from the road during this busy holiday weekend.
