With regard to Caro-line Ashworths Comments on Diwali, it is a shame that such young person could disgrace her-self like this, especially one who is so famous and good-looking. She has probably jeopardised her career.

Ive attached a graphic taken from Facebook to my letter about another young girl who says she doesnt care if we consider her a racist, and Ill be honest I dont know where shes from, but its infuriating to me and many other of my friends and family (and some of them are white) to see

that shes not willing to embrace another culture. Yes, I understand her saying fi reworks are loud and scare animals, but if people are so caring take the animals inside the house where they will feel safer. Its just one night. People expect us to stop our heritage and they say its for their pets. Oh, please.

Another thing she said was we are not the veggie-fasting peo-ple we claim to be when we mur-der innocent animals. She needs to know we dont do it on purpose.

And not forgetting that there are game hunters who shoot inno-

cent animals for fun, sport and leisure now thats disgusting.

To my knowledge most schools teach the reason we celebrate the festival of lights, so why do some people still seem so dumb to criticise our beliefs? And I know its not all white people. Some have respect for us and we need more people like that, because we cant keep having racist incidents every year.

I felt bad to expose the girls

posting. But she felt it was time to expose our so-called festival of lights so I thought it was time to expose this so called Hindi-rac-ist.

I am a young Indian girl who takes offence at what the beauty pageant contest-ant [Caroline Ashworth] has said. South Africa is a democratic coun-try and so they shouldnt be com-plaining and taking away our cul-ture.

Furthermore everyone deserves health, wealth and prosperity and does what it takes to have it.

Having lived in the area of the Trim Park in Northdale for the past 39 years, it is evident that crime has escalated in the past few years.

The park and the netball fi eld has become a haven for crimi-nal activity. The major contrib-uting factors are the illegal drug dens and shebeens. Women have become a soft target while walk-ing to the taxi stop. Their hand-bags, jewellery and cell phones have been forcibly taken at knife-

point. Our kids use the park as a

shortcut to school. Now its over-grown and unkempt. Our failing municipality generally cleans up only once a year before the Easter Tournament.

People should refrain from using the park as a shortcut; kids should not play in the park; women should always walk in groups. And a stronger police presence is required. Panel Maharaj

  • Disgraceful behaviour

Do not suppress Indians I am utterly appalled at the behaviour of these neigh-bours. Nobody is stop-ping people from using reworks to celebrate but the point is to use them with responsibility and respect. The blatant destruction of property suggests those concepts are not understood by them, since they are certainly behaving worse than animals.

I refer to recent letters by Tarryn Blaike and Anne Hemmings letters in a ocal newspaper. My community akes exception to the fact that the

SPCA continues its racist stance nd undermines our Hindu culture.

One doesnt have to be ignorant o work this one out. Race was lways a harsh method of sup-ressing Indians by certain colo-

nial whites. The park benches read Net

lankes, meaning Whites only nd it seems to continue today.

The municipality should wake up as the problem is that as soon s a non-white moves into a so-alled white suburb, then all of sudden there is racial discrimi-

nation between dogs - white dogs nd non-white dogs, and not only

people. Yet when it thunders God doesnt pick on white and non-white areas. The dog of colour also gets traumatised. Only cer-tain colonial whites dont want to reform or change and, really, there is no place for these racist people in South Africa.

No laws will ever be changed on reworks unless the Indian communities are thoroughly con-sulted. We strongly recommend that the SPCA offers free tran-quillisers for pets for Deepavali/Diwali and Guy Fawkes. The slaughtering of goats for Eid-ul-Adha to feed and share with the hungry, is the same as Deepavali. Sharing and slaughtering cows, sheep and turkeys for Christmas is a cultural requirement for the rainbow nation and must not be

restricted in any particular resi-dential areas.

My grandfather was brought by the British from India as an indi-gent labourer to fuel and enrich the whites. He had to sweat for a few pennies from those who today continue their stance of racism and have no respect and tolerance towards the rainbow nation and its different religions and cultures. I am well supported by the rainbow nation and I am a member of vari-ous apolitical and religious organi-sations. We wont hesitate to com-mence boycotting certain racial apolitical organisations and certain media. Remember, its the masses that count. The SPCA needs to transform.
