Pub | kitchen | garden The Old Auctioneer is the third oldest building in Banbury, built in 1596 and surviving the great fire of 1628. The site dates back to medieval times and was originally known in colourful terms in 1333 reflecting both the economic function and activity of the street before being renamed parsons street in 1410. The pub became known as The Flying Horse and in the 1830’s as many as 53 coaches left the pub for London weekly, taking seven and a half hours to make the journey. We have re-fitted The Old Auctioneer with many original artifacts and you can find out more information on our did you know page in the drinks menu.

Our wings are our biggest selling dish and have been so for many years. We started our search in 1979 to find the perfect recipe for chicken wings. We spent almost 20 years travelling the world trying wings on every continent.It then took us 8 years to develop the recipe which is now regarded as the elixir of wing sauce here at The Old Auctioneer.Be warned. They are incredibly addictive hence the name Incredible Wings. Our famous Incredible Buffalo Wing sauce is also available on our dirty bear pizza, or as a separate dipping sauce.

We make all of our pizzas from a natural biga we call the mother dough. Kneaded by hand using only the finest classic ingredients, Molina Cuputo flour from Naples, San Marzano d.o.p. tomatoes from the Valle del Sarno and fiore de latte mozzarella. Some of our pizzas we top with Burrata the cream of buffalo mozzarella which has an incredible rich texture.

Our steaks are hung for a minimum 28 days on the bone in our exclusive Himalayan Salt Chamber. We sourced 150-200 million year old Himalayan hand cut salt bricks to create our own dry ageing chamber. The chamber creates an atmosphere that draws moisture from both air and meat, as well as lowering humidity. The meat undergoes a process of “ionisation” which put simply creates great steaks. Each steak is hand cut by Steve Betts, Banbury’s only Master butcher. We serve them with onions, mushrooms & vine tomatoes, choice of potato and our own steak sauce. We hope you enjoy!
