CATMOSE COLLEGE!

INTRODUCTION

The governing body and the staff of the College appreciate the commitment the parent teacher association (PTA) have to the College and the enthusiasm with which they give their time to ensure that College events are a success. We appreciate the support our parents give the PTA as it has an important role to play in the running of the college; the PTA support the College both financially and at a number of activities during the year.

Over the last 2 years the PTA has raised a magnificent £10,000 to contribute to purchasing a new minibus through their fund-raising efforts at events such as quiz nights, discos, car boot and murder mystery nights to name just a few. PTA funds are not spent on improving the fabric of the college building (this is the role of the governing body) but they are committed to spending money on things that will benefit students directly.

PARENTAL CONTRIBUTION / AWARENESS

The PTA acts as a focus group for College consultations and as a ‘middle man’ between parents and the college. We are a group of supportive parents and staff who are actively involved in feeding back our views to the College. We aim to have communication with any parent at meetings or through the PTA page on the College website.

SUPPORTING COLLEGE EVENTS

This includes providing refreshments at a variety of College events such as shows and open evenings; providing home-baked goods for cake sales; helping specific College groups/teams/clubs to raise funds for specific events. This support to the College will also increase the profile of the PTA and in turn encourage parents to become more involved in the life of the College.

FUNDRAISING

We aim to arrange various activities and events to raise funds for the College as a whole and specific College groups in need of financial help. The main drive for the years 2011/2012 is to raise the money for the refitting of the IT suite in 2012/2013 to ensure that the College has the current software and hardware for all students to access.

As well as this smaller amounts go towards helping groups within the College such as travel to sporting events and recognising student achievement.

The fundraising events provide an opportunity for parents and the community to get involved with the College, to increase the community spirit and sense of belonging within the College and to have fun.

PTA COMMUNITY AWARD

This will be a new award given to a person in each year group. It will recognise a students’ voluntary help in their community outside of school hours and will highlight the good work carried out by Catmose College students.

MEETINGS

In an age where time is precious, our meetings are never more than 1 hour long and are informal and friendly. They are held on the first Monday of each month at 5.45pm and act as a conduit of information between parents and the College. Every parent is welcome to come along. The College webpage has updated information about meetings and events.
