Page 2: PSU Weekend 2011

Sara Gruen’s Water for Elephants has become one of the most beloved and best-selling novels of our time. Readers fell in love with the story of Jacob, a young man tossed by fate onto a rickety train that was home to the Benzini Brothers circus, and Rosie, the untrainable elephant. This New York Times best-seller is now available in 44 languages and has over 3 million copies in print worldwide. The movie version starring Reese Witherspoon, Christoph Waltz, and Robert Pattinson debuted in April 2011.

Sara Gruen’s most recent book is Ape House, starring the amazing Bonobo ape. When a number of apes are kidnapped from a language laboratory, their mysterious appearance on a reality TV show calls into question our assumptions about these animals who share 99.4 percent of our DNA. A devoted animal lover, Gruen’s intense study of communications techniques with apes gave her rare access to the Great Ape Trust in Des Moines, Iowa. The award-winning author lives in the south with her husband, sons, and her favorite animals.
