A great annual PSQ BBQ Event was organised in the Toondah Region of Cleveland .

That and a variety of Photographic Opportunities drew enthusiasts from far and wide ... 80 odd people registered an interest in being there, and by the time I signed the attendance book 60 odd people had already signed in.

Tutoring and Practical opportunities abounded, some of which is illustrated by some of the photos I captured.

The last to leave were some of the Organising Management Committee that had stayed back till 4.30pm to cleanup.

Some of the Practical aspects I was able to participate in involved dogs chasing Frisbees organised by Tina Dial, Macro/Closeup Studies such as a Golden Orbweaver with a Moth, and the challenging attempt at capturing Terns and such on the wing. The dexterity of the Terns as they skimmed the ground catching Shrimp or such was impressive to watch. Affiliated Members who missed out, can plan for another event next year ... Cheers.

This time of the year is the beginning of the EOY Dos by most of the Photographic Associations.

It usually begins with Judgings of the Awards and the Dinners & Parties naturally follow. The Parties often start with the PSQ BBQ on a November Saturday and a PSQ Judges Forum on the next day.

The day started with a bit of a Glitch with the venues IT System which held things up for a while but a change to another Conference Room at the Chermside Library soon solved that.

Presentations by the MC Ralph Brown and very experienced Judge Warren Veivers was soon followed by the first of the Forums 2 Keynote Speakers. A Professor of Education from Newcastle, Dr Roy Killen GMPSA made an excellent Presentation on the intricacies that the changes to the International Definition for Nature has brought to our attention.

Following a break for Lunch and a Group Photo another great Presentation by Mel Anderson on Creative & Artistic Photography was followed after smoko by the usual Round Circle Forum among the Judges during which Understudy Judge Gerry Gibson received his Certificate of Accreditation to the PSQ Judging Panel before President Sue Gordon closed the meeting at 3.30pm.

This is an early reminder of the 2020 Salon of Excellence Photo Competition and an invitation to all members of PSQ Afiliated Clubs to participate.

The competition will open in early 2020, with the closing date on Sunday 29th March (TBC). All entries will be via the MyPhotoClub website as they were last year.

Winners will be announced at the PSQ Convention at Mackay from 1st to 4th May.

Entries fees will be $10 for the irst section, then $3 for each additional section.

Subjects will be the same as last year: Open Colour, Open Mono, People (Colour or Mono), Nature and Social Documentary (Colour or Mono).

There is both Print and Digital Competitions, and there will be separate competitions for both A and Non A grade competitors.

This is an excellent opportunity for all members to participate in a Queensland wide competition, especially if you are a non A grade member, and to test your skills beyond your own Club competition.

Entries for the Australian Interstate Competition will be chosen from the SEQ participants, with the prospect of competing in an Australia wide competition.

It is also a chance for Clubs to compete against one another with Trophy awards for both the highest aggregate score, and to encourage smaller clubs - the highest average score.

The Gympie Camera Club will be hosting the judging of the competition on the 4th of April, as well as organising the event.

We look forward to receiving many entries and to a good healthy competition between the Queensland Clubs.
