are the worst affected. These are:

Of the above, Rudraprayag is the worst hit district. The most affected blocks in

Rudraprayag are Ukhimath and Agastyamuni

Uttarakhand Disaster - Painful Facts

As per official data released, a total of 653 people are still missing in Rudraprayag

Many families have lost earning members; some have lost houses and life savings

There are villages that have lost significant number of youths in this tragic event and the

young wives, old parents now remain in the families to fend for themselves

There are substantial losses to livelihoods, notably livestock and agricultural land & crops

Vast amount of agricultural land for which no current estimates are available are fully or

partially submerged by the surging floodwater

Estimates suggest that more than 700 buildings that include houses, hotels, shops,

schools and other facilities have been completely washed away in Rudraprayag

The villages of Kendarnath, a tourist and religious pilgrimage site situated just below the

lake, were completely washed away

Reports estimate that in some villages in Rudraprayag all men above age 14 have been

killed leaving a number of widowed families

?Should we just remain mute spectators to a tragedy simply

because we are unharmed and safe miles away, but a tragedy that

has otherwise changed the lives of thousands..thousands of our

fellow citizenschanged their lives forever

PSP had to take notice and respond to the crisis.

PSP Survey Visit

Pujya Didi Maa, along with Yugpurush

Swami Parmanandaji Maharaj and Sanjay

Bhaiyya, personally visited the affected

regions to gain first-hand information

PSP Survey Visit

Pujya Didi Maa met with the local fellow-citizens to share

their grief and hear out their horrific stories of the tragedy

She also met with and had discussions with the local

officials to assess the on-ground situation and identify

possible interventions

PSP Relief Operations

Without wasting any time, PSP commenced relief operations in different parts of the

region with distribution of relief kits (containing rations, utensils, clothes, torch, tarpaulin,

etc.) and generic medicines.

PSP Relief-Rehab-Development (RRD) Program

PSP is thinking beyond temporary relief

It proposes to undertake and implement `Integrated Village Relief, Rehabilitation &

Development (RRD) Project in a phased manner with long-term approach

With the objectives of saving lives, alleviate sufferings, maintain human dignity during

and in the aftermath of the calamity, and consequently restore normalcy

Phase I Immediate initial relief works and short-term rebuilding

Phase II Medium to long-term recovery and rehabilitation

Phase III Long-term development and improvement in socio-economic indicators

Indicative works & activities proposed to be undertaken at the on-ground level in the

intervened villages (over and above need-based):

Aid & Relief

Relief works incl. financial aid

Supply solar lanterns

Supply non-electrical water filters

Other extempore activities aligned with

on-ground conditions / community

anticipation on need-basis (rations, aid,

medicines, etc.)

Rehabilitation

Create provisional dwellings

Undertake restoration/repair work

wherever viable

Set-up Shelter Homes for affected

children & women to provide basic

necessity & welfare package for inmates

Deploy Multi-utility Vehicle for

transportation, ambulance & carriage

PSP RRD Program - Proposed Activities

Skill Development & Livelihood

Establish VT-Centres to undertake skill

development / up-gradation of young girls

& women in different vocations (such as

Tailoring & Stitching, etc.)

Impart functional literacy and other life-

skills to young girls (school dropouts) &

women of project / neighbouring villages

Conduct periodic activities for

improving ones self-perception, self-

confidence and outlook

Education

Repair / renovate school building

wherever and to whatever extent possible

Distribute school-bags and other

stationery amongst school-children

Establish library-cum-reading room

Supply sports kits / materials

Celebrate 4 events (Independence Day,

Republic Day, Teachers Day & Childrens

Day) for positive engagement

As part of the long-term plan, PSP has already set-up two relief centres in the region,

as below, from where our team will dedicatedly & selflessly continue to serve in the

region to bring more victims under the ambit of this program

PSP is in the process of identifying another location as we have plans to set-up

three centres to conclusively cater to the villages in Rudraprayag, one of the worst-

hit areas

PSP RRD Program - Relief Activities

Distribution of relief kits and generic medicines shall continue for some more time

Propose to distribute solar lamps and non-electric water filters to ensure availability of

electricity and drinking water amongst the villages we are serving

The existing centres and those to be set-up shall also serve as `Shelter Homes for the

children who have lost their parents and women who have been widowed

Legal formalities are underway to adopt such identified children and bring them under

VATSALYA care

Some existing structures in the region identified for starting 10 vocational training centres

for the local women to help them `learn-and-earn and gradually overcome the trauma that

this tragedy has brought along

Going forward, a full-fledged `VatsalyaGram' in Uttarakhand planned to serve on the

lines ofVatsalyaGram-Vrindavan

Monitoring & Evaluation

The implementation of the project shall be monitored at two levels. At the first

level it shall be monitored at the project level by the Project Head and at the

second level it shall be monitored by the team of senior management ofPSP
