2013 Post Secondary Enrollment Options Information Night



PSEO - Two Programs

• Post Secondary Enrollment Option B (PSEO B)

• Credit-in-Escrow



PSEO B• Free tuition and books

• Counts on high school transcript and college transcript

• Must be taken during the academic year

• Fall deadline for application – June 15th



Credit-in-Escrow• Paid for by student and parents

• Counts on college transcript / May also be used for high school credit

• Classes can be taken during the summer as well as the academic year

• Deadline for application – 3 weeks prior to start of term



Criteria for Participation

Freshman 3.9 GPA for 7 & 8 grade

accumulation Complete assessment

Sophomore 3.7 GPA for 8 & 9 grade

accumulation Complete assessment

Junior 3.5 high school GPA Complete assessment

Senior 3.0 high school GPA Complete assessment



• Students can choose off the “transfer module” list for general education or core courses that will transfer to state colleges and universities.

• Students can choose electives or other courses that they find interesting or cannot take at the high school that may help in career exploration or to prepare for college expectations.

College Opportunity Partnership Program (COPP)

• LCCC courses are available at some public high schools!• Student remains in high school environment.• Student still earns college credit.• Student may access all services LCCC provides

for on campus students.• Fall Deadline June 15th



Criteria for Participation in COPP

Freshmen /Sophomores 3.5 cumulative GPA Must meet pre-requisites for

any course and complete COMPASS assessment or submit ACT or SAT scores placing students into course.

Juniors and Seniors 3.0 cumulative GPA Must meet pre-requisites for

any course and complete COMPASS assessment or submit ACT or SAT scores placing students into course.

Each district decides the appropriate grade level for their students to take each high school site course.



What To Do and When (both programs):

• All Students: Notify middle/high school of intent to participate ( get intent form from school) by March 30

• Complete application (sections 1 and 3) AS SOON AS YOU DECIDE to PARTICIPATE. Turn in to HS immediately – by May 1st!

• Discuss college course selections with your high school counselor to complete section 2 of the application and forward to LCCC along with a school transcript.



Application:• Applications for Option B and COPP will

not be approved for fall semester if submitted after June 15th .

• There is a “second chance” deadline for students that want to participate in spring semester – October 15th

• The earlier you submit your application, the better…



Checklist for Registration• Once you are accepted, follow procedures on

welcome letter from LCCC:– Register online For a MANDATORY LCCC Orientation

Session: www.lorainccc.edu/orientation

– You will complete the College Student Inventory as part of your orientation if you attend the orientation at LCCC.

– Take the COMPASS ASSESSMENT.

– Meet with an Academic Advisor at LCCC.



Mandatory LCCC Orientation

• High schools with classes on their site will hold one session at each high school site in May.

• If you miss the May date at your high school or your high school doesn’t offer a session you must attend at LCCC or complete online.

• Sign up at www.lorainccc.edu/orientation



College Student Inventory

• CSI is an online assessment that helps to identify strengths and weaknesses in academic preparation, motivation, and career decision making to provide a career advantage.

• This assessment is administered as part of the orientation session on the LCCC site.



Placement for College Courses

• Take COMPASS Assessment before school lets out. (TARGET DATE is by May 15th). DO NOT WAIT!

• Check www.lorainccc.edu/compass for sample questions and lab hours.

• Or…Submit ACT/SAT scores to LCCC.

• If you do not take ACT by June 8th 2013, you must take COMPASS instead!



Meet With an Academic Advisor

• Meet with LCCC Academic Advisor and schedule your classes or to have an advising session if taking classes at the high school site. (You can take your COMPASS and meet with an advisor in same day)

• Advising Sessions will be held on a walk-in basis in the Mike Bass Library and Community Center at LCCC:

Enrollment Services Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 8:30 a.m. thru 7:30 p.m.

Fridays : 8:30 a.m. thru 4:30 p.m.

***Remember: Avoid waiting in line and getting closed out of courses by applying for PSEO and meeting with advisors EARLY(before summer break)!



Advising and Registration:• LCCC site PSEO students will schedule campus

courses during their advising session.

• High school site COPP students will be registered by LCCC staff over summer, but will learn if they meet requirements during their advising session.

• Take your schedule to the Bass Library Building and get your college I.D.

• LCCC site - pick out your books at the College Bookstore 3 weeks before class.

You Should Know…

• College Site: student is removed from the high school environment

• HB 282, 3.0 high school GPA is required in subject area



You Should Know…• Grades earned in college coursework

may affect high school class rank

• College grades are usually computed into GPA (depends on school policy)• Some schools add quality points for LCCC

courses like they would for honors courses

• Even an A in a college class can sometimes negatively impact student’s class rank



You Should Know…

• Students may find it more difficult to partake in high school extra-curricular activities

• Students will be exposed to coursework geared toward adult learners

• Students may not have the maturity for the college atmosphere



You Should Know…• College transcripts are permanent records

• Students retain entering freshman status toward federal and state financial aid--check with receiving institution about their scholarships

• School districts will seek financial restitution if student fails or withdraws from a course



You Should Know…• High school graduation may be

jeopardized if a student fails or drops a college course that is also being used for high school credit.

• Work closely with high school counselor

• Give your absolute best effort

• Talk to your instructors!

• Get help/tutoring if necessary

• You will follow LCCC calendar. Breaks and days off and finals may differ.
