PRUI 2013 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL Persatuan Rugby Union Indonesia (PRUI) or Indonesian Rugby as it is better known was established in May 2004 by a group of seven friends and since that time the Union has successfully raised in excess of US$600,000 to help develop and manage Rugby Union in the country. In 2013 we are looking for your company or institution to support Indonesian Rugby by becoming one of the Union’s valuable sponsors for this great cause, and to assist the Union in providing an opportunity for Indonesian males and females to enjoy playing one of the world’s premiere sports. Indonesian Rugby especially targets school children and youths as these young people are seen as the future of Indonesian sports and also as the leaders of this emerging giant of a nation. You will see in this presentation the benefits that your institution or company will receive that we feel can mutually compliment your business and your Corporate Social Responsibility activities. History Rugby had been played in Indonesia as a social sport for more than 40 years, mainly by expatriates living in the country, prior to PRUI’s formation. Some history suggests that the Dutch also played rugby during the VOC days in the early part of the 20 th century, so Rugby’s history is long and varied in this vast archipelago. PRUI was formed in May 2004 by seven men who foresaw the purpose of developing the sport and culture of Rugby Union in Indonesia. PRUI’s inception was seen as a means to formally organise the sport and orient it towards a path of achievement and for it to gain recognition from not only the IRB but also Komite Olahraga Nasional Indonesia (National Sports Committee) or KONI. PRUI has been a Full Member of the Asian Rugby Football Union (ARFU) since October 2005 and an Associate Member of the International Rugby Board (IRB) since March 2008. Thursday February 21, 2013 heralded a new era for the Game of Rugby in Indonesia as the sport became a Permanent Member of KONI. Since May 2004, there has been a marked growth in the number of local participation from the ranks of school-age to senior players, as well as coaches, referees and administrators, from around 40 to now more than 700 Indonesians involved in the Game. Persatuan Rugby Union Indonesia (PRUI) or Indonesian Rugby as it is better known was established in May 2004 by a group of seven friends and since that time the Union has successfully raised in excess of US$600,000 to help develop and manage Rugby Union in the country.

Some history suggests that the Dutch also played rugby during the VOC days in the early part of the 20

th

century, so Rugby’s history is long and varied in this vast archipelago.

Indonesian Rugby welcomes your kind support and you can be assured that this support will be easily seen in the smiling, happy faces of those playing rugby in 2013 and beyond.

Following the 2012-13 AGM it was decided to change the PRUI Organisational Structure in line with the requirements set by KONI for Indonesian Sports and a number of Sub-Committees were added in order to meet the growing demands of Indonesian Rugby. The major change in the organisational structure was that only Indonesian Nationals could be elected the Executive Committee (ExCo). Foreigners can be elected to serve on the various Sub-Committees and can still serve as Directors of the Union.

Rugby Provinces

Rugby is currently played in twelve (12) Indonesian Provinces – Jakarta, Banten, West Java, Yogyakarta, East Java, Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, Papua, North Maluku, North Sulawesi, South Sulawesi and East Kalimantan.

There are also a few provinces in Sumatra (Riau, Aceh, South Sumatra and Belitung Island) that are also keen to establish Rugby as a sport.

In the past Rugby development in provinces outside the Jakarta-Banten region has generally financed and supported by major mining operations or oil and gas operations. Should your institution be located in any of these provinces and you are interested in speaking to a representative from a respective Rugby province then PRUI can be of assistance to you.

Community Rugby

Community Rugby encompasses the Grass Roots elements of the Game which allows young girls and boys the opportunity to play and enjoy the Game. Indonesian Rugby provides a wonderful opportunity to companies or institutions with a real sense of Corporate Social Responsibility as Indonesian school children and university/ college youths invariably lack the ability to participate in organised sport of any form. Indonesian Rugby does not discriminate as it recognises that girls have an equal opportunity with boys to play Rugby. The Union also recognises that the future of Indonesian Rugby lies in the hearts and minds of the nation’s school children and youths.

There is no greater way to do something for children and youths than to teach them the value of sport through Rugby and how its lessons can teach them so much about what lies ahead in life. PRUI provides trained Rugby Development Officers (RDO’s) to serve in this all important role but they need your financial help to carry out their great community work. PRUI also provide IRB-qualified Referees to officiate at matches and tournaments.

How your support works Indonesian Rugby provides IRB-qualified (Level 1 Coaches) National Rugby Development Officers (RDO’s) to provide and supervise Grass Roots, Schools & Community Rugby Programs. As part of this program these Officers can provide IRB courses such as “Rugby Ready” and “Get Into Rugby”, as well as suitable training for IRB-recognised Tag Rugby and Rugby 7’s, both of which are ideal ways of teaching children and youths the basics of the Game. In order to carry out this training, PRUI’s RDO’s need balls, training cones, tackle shields and most importantly access to safe fields… all of this costs money and your money will be well-spent in providing all of these necessities, as well as providing a salary for each RDO. The Union also provides IRB-qualified Referees to officiate in domestic and international matches and competitions. Indonesian Rugby has an obligation to conduct IRB Training Courses for Referees – in the past these courses have included IRB Level 1 & 2 courses. Indonesian Rugby can also arrange for IRB-educators to visit and provide Coaching plus Referee Training Courses. PRUI Tournaments with great commercial exposure include:

2013 National U20’s Rugby 7’s (previously Skybattle on Feb 28) 2013 Jakarta Highland Gathering Community Rugby (May 25 & 26) 2013 Indonesian National 7’s Tournament (Sept – please see next page) 2013 Jakarta Schools Rugby 7s Tournament (Oct-Nov)

PRUI 2013 SPONSORSHIP PROPOSAL 5

In 2013, the Indonesian National 7s Tournament takes on a whole new meaning now that Rugby has been recognised as a National Sport by KONI.

This tournament sees the best provincial Rugby clubs from all over Indonesia playing each other in 2 days of tough competition to see which team can claim the title of National Champions.

Last year the Bali Hanoman earned the tag of National Champions for the first time in a spirited display of teamwork over the weekend. Previous Champions also include the Kotekas, Gosowong and the Jakarta Banteng.

This tournament also serves as a selection trial for the Indonesian National Men’s 7’s Team, and this year may also include a Women’s competition as well.

The tournament date is planned for September or October 2013.

How your support works Primarily ‘Tournament Sponsorship’ is designed to ensure that all Indonesian-based teams can participate in this tournament ‘free of charge’. ‘Tournament Sponsorship’ is designed to ensure that all tournament associated costs e.g. pitch rental, pitch marking up, goal posts, goal post protection, sideline flags, refreshments, etc. are provided. Sponsorship can also provide either PRUI or the ‘Tournament Host Club’ with additional funds to cover its own Rugby Development needs. Any surplus funds can also assist PRUI in contributing funds to representative teams such as National Men’s & Women’s 7s Teams, which will be selected at this Tournament. Ultimately all ‘Tournament Sponsorship Funds’ assist more teams and more players in participating in playing Rugby, which is in line with PRUI’s Vision for increased Rugby Development in Indonesia.

Indonesian Rugby HUB’s

As extension of its Community Rugby

efforts, Persatuan Rugby Union

Indonesia (PRUI) has launched a new

‘Grassroots Development Program’ in

2013. The major aim of this program is

extend Indonesian Rugby’s coverage

beyond the confines of the Jakarta-

Bogor-Bandung region, such that

players, coaches, referees and

administrators in all the Rugby-playing

regions of Indonesia receive a similar

degree of exposure to Rugby and the

opportunity to perform at a higher

level, in teams such as the National

Men’s Team otherwise known as the

Rhinos.

Indonesian Rugby plans to achieve this

success by hosting HUB’s in the following

locations:

1. Jakarta-Bogor – April 6-7

2. Bali – April 13-14

3. Papua – April 20-21

4. Manado – May 18-19 (tbc)

The Bali HUB will include clubs from

Surabaya, Bali and Sumbawa. The

Manado HUB will include clubs from

Matano, Manado and Halmahera. The

Papua HUB will include clubs from

TImika and Tembagapura.

The Indonesian National Coach, assisted

by Coaches on loan from the Japan

Rugby Football Union (JRFU), will

attempt to observe players from the

various Rugby Clubs located in the

neighbouring regions near the selected

HUB’s.

These Coaches will help to develop the

current players and coaches through

training clinics and then select a Playing

Squad for the “2013 HSBC Asian 5

Nations Tournament based upon a 15-a-

side Trial Matches played in each HUB.

International Rugby Teams Indonesian Rugby is represented on the international playing field by three National Teams: National Men’s 15’s Team – RHINOS

National Men’s 7’s Team – HARIMAU

National Women’s 7’s Team – CENDRAWASIH

National Men’s U20’s Team These four National Teams are ‘ambassadors’ for Indonesian Rugby abroad. The Rhinos will play in the 2013 HSBC A5N Division 3 Tournament in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in early June. First match versus Guam on June 5 and second match on either June 7 or 8. The National 7’s Teams will play in tournaments such as the 2013 Singapore Cricket Club 7s and other Asian 7s Series’ Tournaments in late 2013. The inaugural National U20’s Men’s 7’s Team will play in June & September.

How your support works Sponsorship assists Indonesian Rugby in organising and hosting ‘Training Camps’, as well as sourcing Coaches and Managers for each representative team (where required). It also assists PRUI in ensuring that the teams are supplied with quality training and playing kits, plus all necessary training devices. Sponsorship also assists PRUI in renting training facilities including playing fields, swimming pools, gyms, etc which are all necessary facilities in preparing the various international teams. Funds also assist PRUI in transporting these teams to/ from the respective international competitions, as well as covering away accommodation costs where and when necessary. Outside of all of the above these sponsorship funds also assist PRUI in arranging and monitoring ‘Player Training Programs’ which are important in the lead-up to international competition. Your support ensures that Indonesian Rugby is well represented on the international playing field.
