Scientific Professional Educational
Project purpose
Project aims Search, collection and preservation of indigenious
varieties of grapevine and fruit crops. Identification, description and evaluation of grapevine
varieties of Herzegovina by genetic and ampelographic methods
Identification, description and evaluation of fruit varieties in Herzegovina by genetic and pomological methods
Virus analysis – state of the materials Development of new products (wine) Analysis of fruit, must and wine produced with indigenious
varieties
Expected results
Preservation and maintenance of endangered indigenous PGR with field collection of identified grapevine and fruit varieties
Gentotypization of grapevine and fruit varieties Identification of synonyms and homonyms in
grapevine Database of collected varieties Virus presence in the grapevine and fruit in
Herzegovina
Expected results
New products (wine) Experimental field for education and
research Publication and scientific conference Cooperation of the young researchers in
BaH and abroad Better interaction between science and
professional field Capacity building
Results: Curriculum development
Results from project (genetic analyses, virus analyses etc) were implemented in the curriculum of Plant breeding, Fruitculture, and Plant protection
Faculty has implemented new module in year 2012/2013, on Master study: Breeding of fruit and viticulture with use of project results in curriculum
Study visits Visit of Institute for grapevine breeding in
Siebeldingen in Germany in 2012 one participant
In 2013 four participants visited: NordGen – the Nordic Genetic Resource

Plant genetic resources
42 varieties of grapevine found 10 varieties of fig Different genotypes of vineyard peach
were identified 16 uncultivated pomegranate populations
in the area of Herzegovina were identified and labelled
New field collection of grapevine at Faculty field in Rodoc
Pomological, chemical and nutritive analysis
Done for the: Fig varieties Pomegranate 16 populations in 2012 Vineyard peach – 15 samples in 2011 and
2012
New products
Microvinification: 8 varieties of grape in 2012 were microvinifacted and 4 in 2013 – done in cooperation with Citluk Winery
Pomegranate juice – analysis Dry fig
Master thesis 1. Pomological and nutritive evaluation of fig 2. Correlation of amphelographic and genetic
characteristics of grapevines varieties from Herzegovina
Bachelor thesis:
1. Ampelographic – enological proprieties of variety Krkosija
2. Ampelographic, genetic and breeding characteristics of variety Mala Blatina
PhD thesis in process
Virus analysis of autochthonous wine grape cultivars of Herzegovina – Ana Karačić
Pomological characterization of autochthonous pomegranate cultivars – Paulina Šaravanja
