    Inspection and testing of safety devices

    This cost effective explosion-proof transmitter designed by Dräger uses IR tech-nology for the detection of flammable gases in the lower explosive limit (LEL). It uses a high performance infrared PIR sensor that will quickly detect most com-mon hydrocarbon gases. A 3-wire 4 to 20-mA analogue output with relays makes it compatible with most control systems.

    With its stainless steel 316L enclosure and drift-free optics, is built to withstand the harshest industrial environments, offshore installations for example. The unique 4 beam signal stabilizing system makes the sensor resistant to dust or dirt deposits on the optical surfaces. Environmental and ageing effects ensure a long term, drift-free operation. The integrated gas library with up to 100 gases provides a high degree of application flexibility. Each of the listed gases can be picked from a menu and automatically cross calibrated with a standard calibra-tion gas such as methane or propane.

Autono-mous dispatch of files or e-mails, acting as an FTP- or SMTP-client is possible. Since it is Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP compliant, analysis and alarm results can easily be shared to a PLC. Digital inputs/outputs (are available for alarms and control of external equipment. Say the imaged temperature exceeds the set point, it can interlock or shutdown an equipment.

    Detection of drowsiness to prevent accidents

    For the first time, in-vehicle telematics can now focus on both the vehicle and the driver. Drowsiness impairs performance, judgment and reaction time in much the same way as alcohol intoxication. Objective monitoring can inform the driver of their level of risk. Optalert JDS™ scores at medium risk levels indicate performance impairment equivalent to a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.05, the legal limit on most roads. This is comparable to being awake for 17 hours. The easy-to-read in-vehicle display ranks a driver’s alertness level on a simple tenpoint scale, where zero = ‘very alert’ and 10= ‘very drowsy’. Drivers receive alerts and can constant-ly see their present level of alertness and drowsiness in a clear and straightfor-ward way.

    The feature that sets Optalert apart from other camera and monitoring technol-ogy is that the data collected provides real-time updates on a driver’s state of drowsiness. Instead of waiting to examine evidence or statistics after an acci-dent has occurred, a driver will be warned before they even enter the danger-ous state of drowsiness. This technology is based on kind of glasses fitted with infrared reflectance oculography (IRO) to measure eyelid movements during blinks, and a display similar to a mobile phone, from which the driver can be alerted of his alertness condition.
